rating of "I" at the Eastern
Oregon Music Festival held
last Saturday at Pendleton.
The lone band was entered in
the class "D" division but
played class "C" music.

Norman Peters, the Heppner
High School band received a 2
rating at the Eastern Oregon
Music Festival in Pendleton.
The Heppner High class "B"
mixed chorus received a 2 and
the grade school band receiv
ed a 3 rating. Both of these are
directed by Mr. Peters.
FIVE YEARS AGO
A rummage sale sponsored
by the Heppner Swim Team
Association has been tenta
tively set for April 23 and 24.
Forrie Burkenbine accepted
the gavel and office of Exalted
Ruler of the Heppner Elks
Lodge from Dean Naffziger on
April 1, when Naffziger joined
the ranks of the Past Exalted
Rulers.
Beginning April 1, the Lex
ington postal station has been
relocated. It has been return
ed to Del s Market which was
its home for many years.
The station equipment was
moved from the Ed Struthers
home to Del's Market last
weekend. Marie Struthers will
continue acting as postal clerk
until March 31. Del Piper
submitted a bid that was
accepted for the station and
has taken back the responsi
bility that he discharged for
many years.
The trees in the Heppner
Main Street Park were expert
ly pruned by Edwin Cutting
and his son, Robert Cutting,
who was visiting from Esta
cada last week. This was a
Heppner Garden Club project
carried out by the Cuttings
and Barbara James. The men
cut out less desirable growth
and Barbara worked at clean
ing up their cuttings. Several
Garden Club volunteers were
ill and the worthwhile project
fell to just two members, Ed
and Barbara, and the visitor
from Estacada.
The distribution of $27,500 to
18 Oregon counties to cover
eligible costs of maintenance
and operation of local mus
eums during fiscal year 1975
was announced by Fred B.
Klaboe, State Highway Divi
sion administrator.
The apportionment is auth
orized by statue and goes to
the various counties as reim
bursement for amounts spent
in the support of local mus
uems. The amounts ranged
from $229.53 to $2,352.76. The
Morrow County Museum at
Heppner received $1,029.43.
Smelt selling for six pounds
for $1 are costing operators of
the Trojan Nuclear Plant a
good bit more than that in
time and effort. Under the
technical specifications gover
ning operation of the 1.1
million kilowatt generating
facility, anytime more than 20
fish are found in or near water
intake structures in a 24-hour
period, the Nuclear Regula
tory Commission msut be
notified.

Market Trend: While the market was down from last
markets prices, it was 2.00 higher than current market
reports earlier in the week had shown.
Next Sale: The next regular sale will be held Thursday,
April 9. This sale will feature range ready bulls. 30 head of
bulls are consigned. These are mostly two year olds and
include Simmental. Angus, and Herefords. Bulls will sell at
12:00 with the regular run to start directly after the bulls
