Mustangs meet defeat at first game against Riverside Pirates, 12 6

The Heppner Mustangs met
defeat in their first game of
the season against the River
side Pirates with the final
score of Boardman, 12, Hep
pner. 6.
As the baseball game began,
the starting positions were:
John Bier, first baseman:
Harry Groshens, second base
man: Riek Cole, shortstop;
and Mark Way. third base
man. Doug Holland pitched,
with Bruce Way catching. Jeff
Orr played the left field
position ; John Murray, center
field; and Jay Hayes right
field.
In the first inning. Heppner
was up to bat first and the top
of the order took off. First on
the list was John Bier, who
got a piece of the ball which
went to second base. Bier
made the throw to first.
causing the first out of the
game.
The wind was blowing very
hard and it was quite cold.
Cole stepped up to the plate
and connected, but the ball
went straight up and
Riversides' second Baseman
caught the ball.
Holland, a switch-hither,
was up and when he hit the
ball the wind blew it from
rieht field over to left field, to

Heppner made two errors and
gave Riverside four runs for
the first inning. The score was
Riverside. 4. Heppner. (
Heppner was tip to hat
again, firoshens. up first, took
a walk from the pitcher.
Bruce Wav struck out for the
first out of the inning for
Heppner Mark Wav got a bile
of the ball hut. the bite wasn't
,big enough as a hot grounder
rolled to the shortstop who
threw out fit first

Cole followed and also took a

and handmade saches were given to each
resident by Lela Palmer.
And, to top off the festivities, green and
white angel cake and juice were served.

base, which sent Mark Way to
the bench.
After warming up Bier did a
good job for his first game of
the season and pitched most of
the game. Heppner scored six
runs. Greg Connor did a
tremendous joh jit hnttiuu
with a double when he was a

The game lasted onlv six
innings because it got too cold
and dark to go on Heppner
made a lew mistakes and
