Sign language
class offered
through BMCC
A sign language class will be
offered through Blue Moun
tain Community College start
ing Monday, Jan. 26. from 3:30
to 5 :30 p.m. at the Heppner Jr.
High School resource room.
The class will be held each
Monday and Wednesday and
will run for five weeks. Cost
for the class is $22.

State Farmer's
degree in FFA
Two Heppner High School
Vp-Ag students, Anne Van
Schoiack and Jeff Bailey, are
applying for a State Farmer's
degree in the Future Farmers
of America (FFA).
Part of the application is
based on their Vo-Ag record
books in district competition.
Anne's was the best in the
district.
Basic requirements for a
State Farmer's degree are:
membership in Vo-Ag for at
least two years; at least 500
hours on their project or (500
spent on their project.
This award is presented to
only 3 percent of F.F.A.
members in the state.
Lutheran
high school
students study
world religions
The Hope and Valby Luth
eran congregations are spon
soring a Thursday night study
of world religions starting this
Thursday night. The group
will meet at 7:30 p.m. down
stairs at the Hope Lutheran
Church.
The course is especially
designed for high school
people, and all are welcome -Lutheran
or not.
The aim of the study is to
gain an intelligent under
standing of the people in other
religions and to develop a
greater awareness of the
Christian church's relation
ship in the world.
The course will deal with
Judaism, Islam, Hinduism,
Buddhism, Taoism, Confuc
ianism and Shintoism.
Angling regs
available
Printed copies of the 1981
Angling Regulations booklet
have been distributed to
license agents throughout the
state and are now available
wherever hunting and fishing
licenses are sold.
Regulations appear in the
same 56-page booklet format
as iast year with an illustra
tion of the chinook salmon,
Oregon's state fish on the
cover. Angling regulations
and seasons for all species are
included as well as rules
governing the taking of bull
frogs, shellfish and intertidal
animals.
Rules for ocean salmon
fishing are not found in the
booklet this year. They will
not be set for state regulated
waters until April, after regul
ations have been set for the
ocean zone beyond three
miles. Regulations from three
to 200 miles offshore are
adopted by the U.D. Secretary
of Commerce after recom
mendation by the Pacific
Fishery Management Council.
States set rules for the waters
off their coastlines within
three miles.
Anglers are urged by the
Fish and Wildlife Department
to pick up a copy of the free
"booklet for a quick review
before fishing in 1981.0While
most regulations remain tht
same, there have been a
number of changes affecting
local waters.
Many anglers keep a copy of
the regulations book in tackle
box or fishing vest. A small
zip-lock type plastic bag will
help insure the booklet re
mains usuable in spite of the
soakings sometimes inherent
in fishing.
