The first league game of the
year turned out to be a
bummer for the Heppner
Mustangs who lost to the
Boardman Riverside Pirates,
41-40. This truly exhilarating
game kept the spectators on
their feet and few could tell
whether the buzzer went off or
not because of the crowds
enthusiasm.
The first quarter was a
quick one, for as they got the
tipoff, a player came swoop
ing from behind for a steal.
The ball went down the floor
and Doug Hooand put it in the
basket for the first two points
of the game.
At the end of the quarter, the
Mustangs threw in five field
goals and one free throw shot,
for a total of 11 points.
Boardman, behind with four
buckets, had a total of 8 for the
first quarter.
The second quarter was a
little bit slower for Heppner in
the scoring department, for
they had scored only 7 points,
"with Riverside soaring ahead
with 18. At the end of the
quarter the score was Pirates,
26, to Mustangs, 18.
