Cardinal girls meet Vikings second time Cards defeat Vikings, 54-41

The lone Jr. High boyg
traveled to Echo on Thursday,
Dec. 18. for their second game
of the season. The boys
returned with a victory, 42-23.
The first quarter was pretty
close as lone had 10 to Echo's
8. All eight of Echo's points
came from Fred Widman.
In the second quarter, the
Cards took a 7 point lead as
they outscored Echo, 7-2. The
half-time score showed lone In
the lead. 17-10.
lone came out after the half
to take an even bigger margin,
30-15. Echo had one of their
better quarters in the fourth
but couldn't outscore the
Cards. At the end of the game
the scoreboard showed lone
ahead 42 23.
The scoring for the Cardin
als was pretty close; Mark
Meyers was high scorer with 8
points. Jeff Ball, Randy Mc
Cain and Mark Schmidt all
had 7 points each. Donnie
Doherty had 6, with Ken
Keene, Eric Pointer and Mike
Rietmann all having two.
Kevin Ball and Richard Keene
each had one. Playing but not
scoring were Ashley Conklin
and Doug Raaf. High scorer
for Echo was Fred Widman
with 12 points.
The Cardinals had only 5
fouls called on them in the
game, which allowed Echo to
shoot only 2 free throws during
dp game. lone shot 7 for 19
lm the free throw line,
giving them 37 percent.
Handy McCabe did an
exceptional Job rebounding for
the Cards.
Coach Deeter was pleased
with the team play his team
showed in the game.
lone Jr. High girls lose to Echo

The lone Jr. High girls
played their second game of
the season against Echo on
Thursday. Dec. 18. The Cards
were defeated, 25-43.
The Cards were outscored
Qly in the first half, as Echo
went into the locker room with
a 5 25 half time lead.
lone never gave up as they
outscored Echo. 13 8 for a
third quarter score of 18-33.
The Cards held Echo to 10
points in the last quarter. The
final score was 25-43.
"I was proud of the way the
girls played, they never gave

Each will meet with the class
before the performance he or
she directs to discuss expec
tations and then again after
the performance to discuss
how those expectations fared
with an audience. The class
will get a back-stage view of
what's involved in each event.

The lone Varsity played
Heppner on Saturday, Dec. 20.
The Cards were defeated in a
close 55-57 game.
It looked to be a very
exciting game as the first
quarter was closely matched,
but showed the Mustangs with
a 1 -point lead at the close of
the first quarter.
The Cards couldn't quite
keep up with the Mustangs as
The Cardinal girls met the
Umatilla Vikings for the
second time this year on
Friday. Dec. 19. The Cards
were defeated, 31-48.
lone had a very weak first
half, scoring only 6 points in
the first quarter and none in
the second. The Vikings took
advantage of this by scoring 28
points in the first half.
The Cardinals came out at
half time looking better as
they scored 10 points in the
third quarter and held the
Vikings to 12. At the end or the
quarter the scoreboard show
ed the Vikings ahead, 16-40.
The Cards tried to make a
comeback in the last quarter,
outscoring Umatilla, 15-8. But
this wasn't enough for the
Cards as they were defeated,
31-48.
The Cards shot 1 for 6 for 17
percent from the free throw
line. The Vikings shot 8 for 14
for 57 percent.
"We had a really good
second half," commented
Coach McDeugal.

campus. "There's something
beyond us all in what ever we
approach," he said smiling.
"This is going to be an

fans. Heppner had a total of 40

quarter, while lone, not at all
meets Heppner and defeat
34 points in the second half.
lone had some injuries in
the game; Anita Palmer
broke her nose and had to
have surgery. Cindy Drinkard
got a pretty serious concus
sion and was in the hospital for
Donnie Taylor scored 12 points
for the Cards to help them
take a 31-19 lead.
The Cards were outscored in
the third quarter by 6 points to
close the gap to 44-37. lone w as
again outscored in the final
quarter; the score board
