Hwy . 207. Driver of the vehicle

No injuries resulted from the
Grand Squares celebrate
with Christmas dance
A Grand Squares Christmas
dance was held Friday, Dec.
19 from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight
at the American Legion Hall
in lone.
The event, which featured
food, fellowship and dancing,
was hosted by Lloyd and
Shirley McNary, George and
Lorene Griffith, and Darrel
and Bev Wilson. The McNarys
provided homemade ice
cream.
Special attractions were 3
Squares dancers, three
couples from the Rockets in
Pendleton and two couples
from the Square Knots in
Open house reception to
honor Sylvia McDaniel
An open house coffee in
honor of Morrow County
Treasurer Sylvia McDaniel
will be held at the Morrow
County Courthouse in Heppner
on Dec. 30 from 2 to 5 p.m.
Mrs. McDaniel is retiring on
Dec. 31 after 27't years of
service.
Marine Private completes basic
Marine Pvt. James M. Nor
ris, son of James A. and
Margaret L. Norris of Pilot
Rock, has completed recruit
training at the Marine Corps
Recruit Depot, San Diego.
During the 11-week training
cycle, he learned the basics of
battlefield survival. He was
introduced to the typical daily
routine that he will experience
during his enlistment and
studied the personal and
professional standards tra
ditionally exhibited by Ma
rines. He participated in an active
physical conditioning pro
gram and gained proficiency
in a variety of military skills,
including first aid, rifle
marksmanship and close or
der drill. Teamwork and
self-discipline were emph
asized throughout the the

Dept.
On Dec. 16, Tom Elliott of
the Morrow County Grain
Growers reported they are
losing small amounts of grain
at their elevator. Deputies will
now be patrolling the area,
says the Sheriff's Dept.
On Dec. 15, a two-vehicle
accident was reported on
Hwy. 730. east of Patterson
Ferry Road by 8th St. West.
Unspecified injuries resulted
from that accident. The
Oregon State Police respon
ded to the call.
Also on Dec. 15. Brenda
Millman reported the theft of
a TV set from her residence in
lone. A Sheriff's deputy res
ponded to the call.
On Dec'. 14. Keith Vosberg
called from Pioneer Memorial
Hospital to report an auto
mobile accident. According to
a Sheriff's report, Vosberg
happened on a pickup upside
down on the first road to the
right off Clark's Canyon Road.
Vosberg then transported an
accident victim. Patsy Anglin,
to Pioneer Memorial to check
for injuries. The Sheriff's
Dept. responded to the call
and a wTecker was dispatched
. to the scene.
On Dec, 13. Carolyn Hodges,
manager of Circle K store at
Boardman, reported a two
vehicle accident near the
store. The Eoardman Police
Dept. responded to the call.
On Dec. 11, Simrall Coombs,
Boardman, reported the theft
of guns from his residence.
The Oregon State Police
handled the call.
On Dec. 9. an accident
involving two logging trucks
was reported on Forest Ser
vice Road no. 5316. The trucks
were driven by Charles Con
rad Spomer, and William
Daniel Powell, both of Pendle
ton. Powell was transported to
Pendleton Community Hos
pital with unknown injuries,
says the Sheriff's Dept.
Hermiston. The hall was
traditionally decorated and
Christmas spirit was in the
air.
A gift exchange of a pound
of something during inter
mission proved interesting.
Items exchanged included a
big potato, a plastic container
of assorted nails, homemade
fudge, and beer cookies.
Darrel Wilson, who faithful
ly called the dance, was
relieved by Ron Davis.
Special guest at the dance
was Beverly Wilson's mother.
Mrs. Frieda Lockmer, from
Sioux Citv. Iowa.
A presentation of cards and
letters from friends and as
sociates will be made at the
open house. These may be
brought to the reception or
