Idaho, were married Dec ember 13 al a 7 o'clock sunrise service in the Cavendish Methodist Church in Cavendish, Idaho. The Reverend Steve Caskey officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel E. Wilson of lone. The groom is the son of Mrs. Lorraiiy Sisk of Vermillion. South Dakota. The bride is a graduate of OSU and is employed as a logging engineer for the U.S. Forest Service in Moscow. The groom is fuels manager for the Forest Service in Kelly Creek. I enjoy reading and re-reading special selections. Now TV brings lovely seasonal offerings. You may see again England's great Charles Dickens' immortal "Christmas Carol" and other classics that each schooled individual should become familiar with. We herewith offer two rather short selections for your Christnias week reading and thinking. They were written by American wise men of different centuries, Benjamin Franklin (170?-1790) has been called a jack-of-all-trades and master of many. No other American, except possibly Thomas Jefferson, has done so many things so well. During his long and useful life, Franklin concerned himself with such different matters as statesmanship and soapmnking. book-printing and cabbage growing, and the rise of tides and the fall of empires. Me also invented an efficient heating stove and proved that lightening is electricity. Here are some words that Franklin wrote as he thought about Christmas: "Let no pleasure tempt thee, no profitt allure thee, no ambition corrupt thee, to do anything which thou knowest to be evil: so shall thou always live jollily: for a good conscience is a continual Christmas." One of my own favorite American-written Christmas classics is the beautiful story of "The Other Wise Man" by Henry Van Dyke. Van Dyke (1852-1933). an American Presbyterian clergyman, gained fame as an educator, a novelist, essayist and poet. His writings are rated "delicate, vivid and full of idealism." From 1913 to 1916 he served as United States minister to The Netherlands and Luxembourg. Here is a slightly shortened version of Van Dyke's tremendous Christmas essay: Keeping Christnias Are you willing to forget what you have done for other people and to remember what other people have done for you : to ignore what the world owes you and to think what you owe the world : to see that your fellow men are just as real as you are; to try to look behind their faces to their hearts, hungry for joy: to close your book of complaints against the management of the universe and look around you for a place where you can sow a few seeds of happiness. ..are you willing to do these things, even for a day? Then you can keep Christmas. Are vou willing to stoop down and consider the needs and the desires of little children: to remember the weakness and loneliness of people who are growing old: to bear in mind the things that other people have to bear in their hearts; to trim your lamp so that it will give more light and less smoke, and to carry it in front so your shadow will fall behind you; to make a grave for your ugly thoughts and a garden for your kindly feelings. ..are you willing to do these things, even for a dav? Then you can keep Christmas. Are you willing to believe that love is the strongest thing in the world., stronger than hate, stronger than evil, stronger than death -Then you can keep Christmas. Be sure the toy. or any part of It. is not small enough to be swallowed Check for dangerous edges or points, Plastics should he strong enough that rough play will not break or shatter the toy. Painted, or dyed toyn should he labeled "non-toxic."
