J. Bauman was in the chair by apointment of Pres ident C.L. Sweek. Mr. Notson was asked to give a report on the conven tion in Portland, an interest ing and informative address. He touched on enforcement problems that had the attent ion of state prosecutors and told of measures for aiding unemployment conditions. Chas. W. Smith, newly appointed county labor direct or and R.L Benge, county judge, continued the discus sion of unemployment relief measures. Judge Benge re ported that 24 men had been registered by the court under the state relief plan, and that 12 of these were put to work on Monday morning. Lexington town basketball team jumped from behind in the final period and defeated Heppner on the Lexington floor Tuesday evening, 26-16. Burchell, Lexington center, was featured in their scoring offensive, while Corral, Neel, Bleakman and Thomson were outstanding scorers for Heppner. The Hepp ner Soil Conservation Service reports the most serious damage is found in the Sand Hollow, Blaekhorse and Clark's Canyon area. Henry M. Breeding, Lexing ton, is now serving with a Navy construction battalion at Cebu Point, Phillipine Islands. Renowned economist, Ro ger W. Babson. predicts that President Eisenhower will be re-elected in 1956 and that business will be good. He also states that higher wages could reduce profits; increased ad vertising appropriations will be seen: liberal credits to the purchasers of homes, auto mobiles and major appliances will continue to be a strong support to many industries: great sums will be spent on research and plant expansion : the baby boom will go merrily on. "The main handicap to retail businesses will be inten sification of the parking problem-shopping centers are a partial remedy and will help the suburbs where 15 percent of the population will live in 1956." Babson continues "Farmers within ten or fifteen miles of a city can 'beat the game' by selling out at increased prices which their land will bring for subdivisions. Tibbies contributed several cabinets he had used in his medical office for many years, along with a collection of instruments and several models. Library Until further notice the Heppner Public Library will be closed on Fridays. Other daily hours will remain the same. O Irrig on Francis Rose Irrigon has been buzzing with Christmas excitement. Santa Claus was at the fire station on Saturday passing out candy to the children, compliments of the Irrigon Lions Club. Many homes are lighted in the Christmas decor. Many college students are home for the holidays. Others are away from home and traveling to visit relatives. School programs were ap preciated by proud parents at A C. Houghton Grade School, at Columbia Junior High, and at Riverside High in Board man. Church programs too are an important part of community iivinfi. The Assembly of God featured a time capsule (use your imagination) with Tracy (Johnson) Rather reporting from year 0 and I;rry (Wilson) Cronkite as the 1980 your support. History repeats itself for 2 Bettys and 2 dolls I Two-time winner, Betty Bunch, displays doll won in Pioneer Memorial Auxiliary raffle. Don't believe the old saying "history repeats itself"? You may change your mind if you talk with Betty Bunch of Heppner. Last Friday the Pioneer Memorial Hospital Auxiliary raffled off a nurse doll to fund an air purifier for the hospital solarium. Gene Pierce of the Bank of Eastern Oregon was drafted to draw the winning name - which turned out to be Mrs. Alvin (Hetty) Bunch. Betty Brown of the auxiliary was chosen to call Mrs. Bunch to tell her that she had won. When the two women got talking, they recalled that Mrs. Bunch had won a doll 25 years ago... and that Mrs. Brown had called her then too. Winning the doll turned out to be an added Imhius to Mrs. Hunch. She has a new baby granddaughter to give it to. Audra Niehole Bunch was horn to Mrs. Bunch's son and daimhter in law on Dec. 6 The auxiliary brought in $23H towards the purifier in the dull raffle, which was added to an additional $150 raised by auxiliary members who sold food and craft items at the Artifactory craft fair held in Heppner Dec. 6. The cost of the purifier was estimated to Ik between $325 and $.'150. Hospital Administrator A.K. "Lucky" Felt said last week the purifier has Ix-en ordered Mrs. Brown says the auxiliary will now begin raising funds to huy a purifier for the hospital dining room The doll's nurse's uniform and evening dress were made by Erma Keithlev news Wilson 922-33 '52 reporter. The church choir sang as the various scenes were pantomimed. The senior citizens were taken by bus to Hermiston to see and hear the choir at the Singing Christmas Tree at the Assembly of God. The 35-voice choir was directed by Delpha Mills, who grew up in Irrigon. Incidently, the tree was built by Cecil Goodwin, also a former Irrigon boy. Carmine Wilson, director of Admissions and Records at Bethany College in Santa Cruz.
