I JU.JL1JULI VaV La r-J 1 U by Andrew Gorman The second night of the Condon Christmas tourn ament, the Heppner Mustangs took on the Condon Blue Devils with a high-score victory for the Mustangs, 85 to 46. Saturday, Dec. 13, the Mustangs were to play the losers of the first (Friday night) game, which turned out to be a snap for Heppner. The score in the first quarter ended up to be Mustangs, 18, to Condon, 8. Hot hand Dorian Forrar was high scorer for the quarter having four field goals and two for two at the free throw line, making a total of 10 points. During the second quarter the Blue Devils seemed to tighten up as they let the Mustangs have nine buckets and five foul shots, a total of 23 points. Money raised will go toward the purchase of new varsity warmups and travel shirts for all the boys. Volleyball The volleyball awards were presented first. Lettering on varsity for the first year were Cindy Hill, Margaret Doherty, and Janet Hams. Girls lettering for the sec ond year on varsity were: Michelle LaRue, Teena Lind strom, Liz McElligott, Diann Morter, Anita Palmer and Sandra Thompson. Getting a J.V. pin was Jamie Scalf. All of the girls received a certificate of participation. Coach Stefani praised the girls for working hard throughout the season and sticking with it when the going got tough. Football The football awards were given out in order of the classes. Freshmen receiving letters were: Darrell Colvard, Howard Leavitt, Craig Hams, Darrin Padberg, Andy Rob erts, Scott Barnett and Steve Millman. Sophomores lettering for the second year were: Vince McElligott. Denny Starr, side shots and 11 free throw shots. The overall score at the end of the quarter was Heppner. 41, to Condon, 29. After the coaches gave their men their strategies, the third quarter was a blow out. Heppner made 11 field goals and five foul shots for a total of 27 points for the third quarter. Condon's Blue Devils had a total of 12 points. Third quarter totals were Mustangs. 68. to Devils. 41. In the fourth and final quarter. Heppner scored 17 points while Condon made 5. This sewed up the Mustangs victory with a total of 85 points to the Condon Blue Devils 46. Dorian Forrar had the grand total of 25 points in the ball game, followed up with Robert Bier with 11. Jeff lettered for the third year in a row. Seniors lettering for the fourth year were: Shawn LaRue, Treve Peterson, Gregg Rietmann. Leslie Thompson. Duane Fetsch. Mark Patton, Barney Rea. and Richard Ladd. Tim Key has lettered for three years. Jim McCabe for two years and John Smith lettered for the first year. All seniors received their football jerseys along with their certificates. Those receiving Big Sky All Star certificates for the sec ond team were: Richard Ladd as center: Shawn LaRue, offensive half-back: and Jim McCabe, defensive half-back. lone had six players on the first team: offensive guard and defensive end, Mark Patton: defensive half-back and offensive end. Treve Peterson: defensive line backer and offensive half back. Gregg Rietmann: and defensive lineman, Shawn LaRue. Honorable mention went to ' Y - f ; I .
