He comes to Heppner from Eugene where he worked for several large stores and also owned his own..drug store for six years. Francis and his wife, Karen, have four children, Michelle, 14, Dara, 13, Sean, 11, and Jason, 6. Karen (Lundell) is a native of lone. Francis has a degree in pharmacy from the University of Montana, and a degree from Pacific Lutheran University. Karen, also a Pacific Lutheran graduate, is a medical technologist. Francis is originally from Montana and lived in Eugene 12 years. Chamber hears Christmas songs nominates board The Heppner Chamber of Commerce was serenaded with Christmas songs during its weekly luncheon Tuesday. The singing class from Heppner Elementary was on hand to lend a Christmas atmosphere to the weekly luncheon by performing sev eral numbers. Nominations for the Cham ber of Commerce board of directors were also made at the Tuesday luncheon. Fred Toombs, John Ed mundson, Jim Farley. Ron McDonald, David Sykes and Bob Harris were nominated to the nine-member board. Confirmation of the nomin ations will be made at next week's meeting. The recruitment period during which applica tions will be accepted is Dec. 1 through Jan. 1!. Approximately 125 positions will be filled this year includ ing field jobs as aids and technicians in forestry, range, engineering, and survey and biological science. Applicants must be 1R years of age on the date they are available for work in order to receive consideration. Salaries range from $4.30 per hour for GS-2 positions to $5.90 per hour for GS-5. According to a Forest Ser vice news release, selections for seasonal jobs will begin In mid-February with some Jobs starting in April. Employment can last until Dec, 31, 1981. No written examination is requir ed for field positions, but some jobs may require a driver's license and-or a physical fitness test. Education, avail ability and experience will determine chances for em ployment. Applications are available at the supervisor's office of the Umatilla National Forest. 2517 S.W. Christmas trees will again be available this year from the Umatilla National Forest, an nounced Herb Rudolph, For es! Supervisor, Tree cutting! for personal use may be done on all five Hanger Districts. . Permits, cutting sites, and specific information may be obtained from the various Ranker district offices or from the Forest Supervisor's office in Pendleton. Permits cost $2 per tree and must be attached to the tree when it is being transported from the Forest. The Pendleton and Pomeroy offices will be open to issue Christmas tree permits Sat urdays, Dec. 6, 13, and 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Permits may also be obtain ed during the week from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 pin. at the Heppner, Dale, Pendleton, Pomeroy, and Ukiah offices.
