Maurice Mitchell, For estry Agent, will share ideas on wood stoves, woods to burn, safety, and a variety of other topics relating to the popular trend to wood burning stoves. Maurice has the answers. 4-H Livestock leaders are reminded of the meeting Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Lexington School to discuss animal possession dates, changes in weigh-in dates, a weight gain contest for sheep and swine, the possibility of re-instating the pig scramble (or a calf-pig-lamb scramble) and other topics relating to the 4-H livestock program. Important decisions will be made. ..be sure to be there. ANNUAL SWINE DAY SET AT OSU DEC. 6 Reproduction efficiency and how to avoid disease losses will be featured at Oregon State University's annual swine day Saturday (Dec. 6). The session will begin at 9:15 a.m. in Withycombe Aud itorium on campus. B.N. Day, a specialist in swine repro duction from the University of Missouri, will discuss repro duction potentials and prob lems of female swine. D C. England, director of the OSU Swine Center, will report on OSU research on accelerated mating schedules for sows and gilts. OSU scientists also will report on the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory ser vices and compare red and white types of wheat as feed for swine. How to handle water quality and waste management from confined animal feeding operations will be discussed by a represen tative of a consulting firm. In addition. W. R. Jepsen of Hermiston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jepsen. Heppner, will give a veterinary prac titioner's view of swine dis eases in Oregon, and H.J. ment of Agriculture will report on functions and ser vices provided by the State veterinarian. Meals will be made available to enrolled children at no separate charge without re gard to race, color or national origin, according to a 4-C council news release.
