FOUR-The Heppner Gaiette-Tlmes, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, December 4, 1980 HHS drama production merited stronger community response photos by Sherry Cowett HY Justine Weutherford The fall production by Heppner High School Drama Club and Jim Acklcy and Friends delighted those who attended Sunday evening, Nov. 30, and Monday evening, Dec. 1. It seemed sad that after so many weeks of preparation and such fine efforts by the performers and their directors the community response was not as strong as merited. Ackley and Friends, Lisa Nix, Ella Mae Green, Joe Mollahan, Jim Angell and Steve Groce captivated every one with their musical rendi tions. Then the old-fashioned melodrama "Never Fear, Strongheart's Here," directed by Larry Cerullo was very amusing. The Drudge sisters, played by Marti Baker and Teresa Skow, were good, sweet and abused by the horrid villian, the mortgage holder, Andrew Gorman. His sidekick, Sheriff Bushwack, played by Wes Marlatt, was impressive. The short drama's hero was Jim Strong heart, so wholesome and helpful, acted by Joe Molla han, who finally saved his sweetheart, Tess Drudge, and her sister. Graisa Mont's deposit amount Graisa Mont cost many years. The director, Jane Rawlins, brought out fine performances from the rather large cast. She managed to have them achieve very good characterizations, be cos tumed appropriately and pre sent their lines convincingly before a mimimum of sym bolic stage setting. Mrs. Rawlins was assisted by Larry Cerullo as stage man ager and Kevin Chick with lighting and sound. Each of the performers did well. Probably Rosalind (Bonnie Arrington) had al most twice as many lines as most of the others, and she was very good. Touchstone, the clown, was most ably por trayed by Polly Fortenberry. The entire cast was strong and some of them were making their first stage appearance. It is hoped that the freshmen and sophomores will continue their work with the drama club.
