To have missed this game
was to have missed one of the
best games of the year in
either the Varsity or Jr.
Varsity ranks. Even the
homecoming game with all of
its excitement was not a close
rival.
If you had come you would
have seen some fantastic
passing by Jeff Orr, and some
excellent receiving by his
teammates. More than once
our team pushed the Tiger
Scotts back deep into our
territory -one time nearly
making a touch back.
But the best of the game
came in the three overtime
periods. The score tied, 18 to
18; the Mustangs rallied to
hold the Tiger Scotts in the
first period, followed by a
touchdown by each team in
the second period, tying the
score 24 to 24; and in the final
period stopping a pass deep
into the end zone; and then bv

agree on 1-82 bridge
An agreement between the
states of Oregon and Wash
ington involving the construc
tion of a new two-lane bridge
and modification of the exist
ing two lane bridge across the
Columbia River at Umatilla
as part of the 1-82 construction
program was approved last
week by the Oregon Transpor
tation Commission.
1-82 will extend from a
junction with 1-84 near Herm
iston to a junction with 1-90 in
Washington, near Prosser.
Construction of the bridge is
expected to start in late 1982, if
funds are available, and
construction of the highway in
Oregon is scheduled to start in
late 1983.
The freeway, to be known as
concerned about our com

Despite the spreading interet
in employees' health and physi
cal fitness, a survey shows that
among many companies only a
fraction of workers takes advan
tage of exercise programs and
physical fitness facilities.
A striking exception noted is
at Phillips Petroleum, where
6.000 of 7,200 employees are
part of the company's fitness
and recreation program.
Cost is only $13 a year for
employees' family member
ship, which covers gym.
swimming pool and bowling
facilities; exercise rooms;
sot'tball fields and a seven-mile
jogging trail. The program is 30
years old.

last Interstate route scheduled
for construction in Oregon.
The State of Washington is
responsible for the prepara
tion of plans, specifications,
advertising for bids, supervis
ion of project construction,
and maintenance' of the
bridge, but plans etc. are
subject to approval by the
State of Oregon.
Costs for construction and
maintenance are to be shared
by each state in proportion to
the part of the structures in
each state. Oregon's share of
the total estimated cost of the
bridge is $14,500,000, with
federal participation at 92
percent.

urges 4no' on number 6
"There is no question that
Ballot Measure 6, if success
ful, would be very damaging
to education in the state of
Oregon." according to Blue
Mountain Community College
President Ron Daniels.
Daniels, as a member of the
Oregon Council of College and
University Presidents (OCC
UP) supports a recent resolu
tion by that group expressing
their strong opposition to
Ballot Measure 6, the property
tax limitation initiative, on the
Nov. 4 Oregon ballot.
"Ixss to the BMCC district
would be almost two-thirds of
current local property tax
income," Daniels pointed out.
Currently, the college levies a
$1 .32 per $1 ,000 true cash value
in Morrow and Umatilla
counties.
"Under figures released by
the state, our levy would drop
to 50 cents per $1,000 true cash
value at a time when the need
for our services is on the
increase," the president con
tinued. He pointed to the
increase in college enrollment
as proof of the need for the
college's service in the dis
trict. Daniels summarized, "It is
very obvious that we could no
longer service local needs
under that kind of income
reduction."

the passage of number 6

effect on the well-being of
Oregon for years to come."
The loss of essential servic
es, the severe reduction of

makes Oregon such a wonder

established ceiling which is
based on the number of
students that facilities can

evening and speak on har
nessing water power for
