Among them are Major and Mrs. Keith Gronquist who are now in England. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis and daughter, Wanda Shade, re cently visited daughter, Bar bara, and son-in-law, Keith, in England. Gronquist grew up in Boardman and the young couple attended Riverside High School. Major Gronquist is in England on an R.A.F. exchange program with the U.S. Air Force. They will spend two years in England. Mr. and Mrs. Davis both agree that England is a beautiful country to visit but they were happy to get home to the dry climate we enjoy here. One week out of the three weeks they spent was nice weather, the rest was rainy and windy. They saw Buckingham pal ace and Big Ben as well as several ancient castles, some of which were built in 60 A.D. Roy was puzzled as to how they were built with big stones so many years ago without the help of the heavy duty equipment we have today. He said you would see many bicycle riders and could understand why with gas at $3 a gallon. He said the narrow roads were lined with hedges until you felt like you were driving through a tunnel. Many of the homes were 400 - years old with thatched roofs. . Mrs. Davis said she espec ially enjoyed going to a live theater in London, and spend ing a day shopping with her daughters. PMH Auxiliary to decorate nursing home The Pioneer Memorial Hos pital Auxiliary has scheduled its monthly meeting for Thurs day, Oct. 23, at l p.m. at the hospital solarium. Auxiliary members will be decorating the nursing home for Halloween and will be working on plans for a Halloween party next week for nursing home residents. Navymari returns from Pacific Navy Chief Aviation Elec tronics Technician Grant S. Carter, son of Ola M. Gro shens of Heppner, has return ed from a deployment in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean. Carter is a member of Carrier Airborne Early Warn ing Squadron 116, based at the Miramar Naval Air Station, San Diego. While deployed, his squadron was embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation. During the seven-month cruise, the Constellation set a new Pacific Fleet record of 110 continuous days at sea while operating in the Indian Ocean. The embarked air wing flew more than 28,000 sorties and logged more than 10,500 ar rested landings. The ship participated in several naval exercises with units from Great Britain, Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Port calls were made in Singapore, the v Philippines and Pusan, South Korea. The long trip home was made extra special when 350 fathers, sons and friends of the crew embarked aboard m Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, for the final leg of the homeward journey. Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 116 flies the E-2 "Hawkeye" early warning aircraft. The "Hawk eye" is outfitted with an electronically-developed radar system that is capable of long-range detection and identification of airborne targets. Carter joined the Navy in February. 1964.
