Tiger Scots lay 'bomb' on Heppner

As the Hcppner-Westnn-McEwen
game was about to
start on Monday, Sept. 26. one
could hear the Heppner play
ers, standing on the side lines,
talking amongst themselves,
trying to build a little enthus
iasm, confidence and spirit.
They knew that they were
outweighed and had to play
aggressive ball.
As the ball flew through the
very last seconds of the game,
the final score was Tiger
Scots. 1.1 and Mustangs. 7.
During the last four seconds
of the game, the Tiger Scots
coach said to a player.
"Bomb!" And, as the play got
underway, number 11. Mike
McLean, the Tiger Scots
quarterback, threw a 42-yard
pass which weaved through
four of Heppner 's defensive

beating Cascade Locks. 39-28.
Senior running back. Gregg
Rietmann. scored the first
touchdown of the game, rac
ing in from 32 yards out. The
extra points were good on a
pass from Jeff Hams to Jim
McCabe.

yard line, only to have a pass
intercepted by Victor Bilyeu.
The lone defense again held
the Pirates, forcing them to
punt. Rietmann then scam
pered 35 yards for his second
touchdown. Hams threw to

points. The first quarter ended
with the score 16-0.
After the kickoff the Card
inal defense again forced the
Pirates to punt. Five plavs
later. Shawn La Rue scored
from the 1-yard line. The pass
for the extra points was no
good
Scott Balfe then came up
with a Pirate fumble. The
Cards capitalized on the

buzzer for halftime. Halftime
score was 28-0.

The Maupin varsity- games
against Heppner were excel
lent, although the first game
ended with Heppner. 15, and
Redsides. 5: the second game,
Heppner. 2 and Redsides. 15;
and the 3rd. Heppner. 3,
Redsides. 15
After Ihe first match, which
lasted Itt minutes, the Fillies
just seemed to be loo tense
