The parade will form under the direction of Clarence Bauman, conduct or, in this order: Flag bearers, President of Rodeo associat ion, C. W. McNamer, accomp anying Queen Arleta; the queen's attendants. Miss Mary Monahan and Miss Mae Gentry; officers of the Rodeo Association ; Irrigon Club Band; Rodeo riders and horses; Lions' float and oth ers: individual special entries. All who wish to do so are ured to decorate their auto mobiles and follow in at the end of the parade. The Morrow County Wool and Grain Show, the display of which is being completed today by C. W. Smith, county agent, will be opened for inspection tomorrow morning at Aodeo headquarters in the Garrigues Building on N. Main Street. The displays of both wool and grain are more extensive this year than ever, Mr. Smith says, and the quality of the products makes the show one of real jnerit. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Episcopal Church is prepared to serve a big crowd at the parish house during Rodeo. Jennie E. McMurray, lone correspondent, writes "wheat sold last week in lone for 65 cents a bushel. One farmer who has lived here for 27 years stated that he had sold wheat for prices ranging from 44 cents to $3 per bushel. A business man who has been in Morrow county for 40 years stated that at one time he sold wheat for 19 cents a bushel. He also says that when he had to sell wheat for that price, he quit farming and sought another means of making a Jiving." Twenty-Five Years Ago The Heppner Wranglers will again serve their popular cowboy breakfast to all hun gry visitors Sunday morning, Dimples Munkers, breakfast chairman has announced. It will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. at the clubhouse on the fairgrounds. The Star Theater's showings for the week include: "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier"; "Arizona Sheep dog"; "Vera Cruz" and "Sign of the Pagan." Mrs. Cyrene Barratt of Corvallis, who is visiting at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Barratt, entertained the Sewing Club last Wednes day. Those present were Mrs. P. W. Mahoney, Mrs. Raymond Ferguson, Mrs. E.K. Schaffitz, Mrs. Carl Spaul ding. Mrs. Robert Penland. Mrs. Jack Bedford, Mrs. Gaude Graham, Mrs. Lowell Gribble, Mrs. Tom Wilson and the hostess. Although the West team showed that history could repeat itself last Saturday night at the Pendleton Round up stadium in the fourth annual Shrine East-West All Starr football game, three of the awards for top players went to members of the East team and two of them to Morrow County boys. Chosen top lineman of the East team was Dennis Swan son, lone. Larry Groves, Lexington, received a trophy for being outstanding in the backfield. A new restaurant, the Hepp ner Grill, opened today under the management of Fong Foo, formerly a restaurant oper ator at Umatilla. The eating place is located in the hotel building at the former location of Ester's Grill. five Years Ago "I have always had a job that required a lot of respon sibility, and I have always had to notify my employers of my whereabouts. Now that I am retiring from the staff of Pioneer Memorial Hospital I plan on playing a little" said Bob Lowe. Bob, the first hospital employee hired is now retiring after working there over 26 years. Bob came here before the hospital was completed. Hospital Adminis trator, Ilene Wyman, presen ted Bob with an appreciation gift when he retired last Friday. Under a program by the Oregon State Housing Divis ion, families earning under this amount could qualify for loans up to $47,000 for an existing home, or $50,000 for a new home, at 9-Vi percent interest. Both Western Heritage Sav ings and Loan and the First National Bank in Heppner are participating in the low in terest loan program. More details may be obtained at either of these two offices. Days have become shorter on both ends; some rare folks are already wrapping up Christmas gifts. September Is a special time, rather bittersweet with some warm days still , but those colder mornings and evenings that tell us another season will soon be upon us. Vacations are past for many and the nitty-gritty of school and work and meetings and more meetings Is beginning. Life becomes rather structured if we reach out and become Involved In our community. Maybe you are new to Morrow County or to Heppner. Maybe your status has changed recently- you are now married, or now single. You are beginning your work life, or you have Just reached retirement. If you want more zest, more friends-get Involved. Line up some good groups, sign up for some new activities. Quit avoiding taking leadership responsibilities-agree to serve on committee or two; go ahead and take an office in your club; maybe you would like to serve on the city council. Go out politicking. Morrow County is a very friendly place. People here call one another by their first names immediately-no formal pausing to get carefully introduced and become better acquainted. It isn't difficult to get into activities here. You might ask most anyone to name a member of some group or club you feel could interest you, and then Just approach the person named as a member of that group and ask about it-like when does it meet? can anyone Join? are there dues? You will probably come up with answers very easily. 0VT rep to visit Heppner A representative of the Oregon Women for Timber will be in Heppner on Sept. 8 and 9 to visit with local individuals and groups. Mrs. Betty Denison, President of the OWT.will be guest Bpeuker at the Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon on Sept. 8 and at the Morrow County Re source Council meeting the evening of Sept. 9. The Resource Council meeting will be held at the West of Willow restaurant In Heppner at 8 p.m. Mrs. Denison will speak on the role of the OWT In presenting factual informat ion to the public concerning our natural resources and in particular our Umber resources. Mrs. Betty Denison will also meet with the Morrow County CowBelles and Morrow Coun ty Wheuthearts on Monday evening, Sept. 8 at 7:30 at the Columbia Basin Electric Coop conference room in Heppner. In afternoon play, Lois Hunt and Eddl Skow tied for low gross and Fran Crook took low net. Fran also took K. P. on No. 5 and Charleen Isom had long drive. In Aug. 31 men's play, Rick Johnston took low gross and Francis Doherty took low net. Elmer Palmer had least putts and Ed Hiemstra took long drive. Harold Kerr had K.P. At Wilson's Willow Run In Boardman, Sandra McGinnis scored a hole in one on 120 yd., at the 8th hole with a 7 iron. The hole in one was her first in 2 years of golfing.
