Art Scatty sistes first fz'J r.zztb.j By Justine Weatherford The first fall meeting of the Morow County Art Society will begin with a no-host dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the banquet room of the Wagon Wheel, Thursday evening, Sept. 11. Arrange ments have been made to have Douglas H. Davis, executive director of the Eastern Oregon Reg jnal Arts Council, come from La Grande to talk to the group bout his work in "the other half of Oregon." Officers of the Morrow County Art society are: Pres ident, Shirley McNary; Vice President, Terry Cutsforth andtreasurer, Pauline Math eny. The Eastern Oregon Reg ional Arts Council is concerned with all phases of art-graphic arts, painting, crafts, and all performing arts. Everyone interested in any type of artistic expression is invited to come to the Sept. 11 dinner and meeting and to become acquainted with Doug Davis. His headquarters are in the Hoke Center at Eastern Oregon State College. Last year he helped to bring an art instructor to the lone schools for 10 weeks. The instructor also gave lessons during one evening each week without charge. During the past summer some of the activities that the -regional arts council has helped sponsor, coordinate or publicize have included an educational day camp which offered young people a variety of activities, various art and craft exhibits, community celebrations and workshops, county fairs, library and museum exhibits and summer theater offerings at the regional colleges. A 24-page newspaper listing all artistic happenings in Eastern Oregon is sent out to members of the regional council. September THE EDITOR Governor hvftei I am pleased to invite all Oregonians to take part in two separate, but related, efforts within my new Listening Post Program. The first part involves volunteer county representat ives I have already appointed making personal visits to the meetings of any organization that extends them an invitat ion. These representatives will pass ideas, comments, and information from citizens at these meetings directly to me. I also extend my personal invitation to all civic, service, fraternal, labor, church and other organized groups to join the second phase by appoint ing a Listening Post Rep resentative for your group. Three times a year, a ballolt will be sent directly from me to your Listening Post Rep resentative. This ballot will ask for a vote of your membership on an issue of critical importance to state government. The ballot will also ask for an evaluation of one state agency. As governor, I need to know how Oregonians feel about critical issues. As the head of state government I need to know how agencies that deliv er services are functioning. Send the name of your Listening Post Representat ive to Don and Martha Peterson, Box 294, lone 97843. Your group will be immediat ely signed up for the program. Portland's KATU-TV (Chan nel 2) "Town Hall" program and newspapers across the state will highlight the issues before voting occurs. The first survey will be sent to participating groups in September. By signing up now, your organization can assure their members the chance to have their opinions count through the program. These announce the fall dis trict meeting which will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton on Sept. 25. All persons interested in gardening are invited to come to the meeting. The Heppner Garden club meets on the second Monday evening of each month, usually in a member's home.
