EIGHT-The Heppner Gaiette-Tlnies, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, August 21, 1980
mm, mW mm.
Weston woman
named 1980
Umatilla County
Homemaker
Mrs. Frank Hendrix, West
on, was declared "Umatilla
County's Homemaker for
1980" at special ceremonies at
the county fair Aug. 7,
announces Molly Saul, Ex
tension home economist for
Umatilla and Morrow count
ies. Chairman of the Umatilla
County Home Extension Ad
visory Council, Mrs. Rog&
M on tee, Pendleton, made the
presentation. This is the
second year the council has
presented this award to the
person who earned the most
points in the Home Economics
Open Class Division at the
Umatilla County Fair. The
award was a pine needle
basket, handwoven by Ruth
Fletcher, Ukiah. .
The award is based on the
number of points earned for
each blue, red and white
ribbon received. Mrs. Hendrix
earned more than double the
number of points of any other
open class participant. She
entered items in the food
preparation, clothing and
handwork open class divis
ions. Extension Home Economist
Molly Saul points out that it
isn't just the large number of
entries that determines who
will win this award. It is
possible for a participant to
enter a great many items, but
receive few ribbon awards.
Mrs. Saul reports that Mrs.
Hendrix not only entered
many items, but she also
received blue or red ribbons
for most of her entries.
