..Just prior to fair, you will
find Open Class Grain and
Hay Superintendent Bill Raw
lins setting up the grain and
hay exhibit.
Rawlins builds the display,
which is made up of many
boxes large enough to hold
each individual's bulk grain
entry. A shelf above the boxes
holds the grain sheaves
Bulk grain entries must be 1
peck, allowing a little more in
case of spillage. Sheaves must
be 4 inches in diameter, cut
close to the ground and tied
with 3 strings. Rawlins said
smaller sheaves are accept
able at the Morrow County
Fair Grain entries are judged
according to Federal Grain
standards.
Rawlins sends samples of
the grain entries to the State
Fuir each year, with Morrow
County entries always doing
well in the statewide competi

to more entries this year
because of the bumper wheat
crops

4-H outreach
Four Morrow County 4-H
Horse Club members journey
ed to the Umatilla County Fair
Wednesday to serve as a team
for other horse club members
to Judge. Dawn Timms, Bren
da Mathis, Annette Wilgers,
and Cindy Stroeber trucked
their horses over for members
from the other counties to
judge for conformation, as
well as saddling up to make a
class on equitation.
Another example of 4-H
outreach opportunities. ...we
thank the four members and
their parents and leaders for
the cooperation in this out-of-county
4-H event!
