ing In the 7lHt Oregon Ama
teur Golf Tournament this
week at the Oswego Lake
Country Club.
During thin InHt school year,
Kawlins has ployed with the
golf nm of Western Ken
tucky University at Bowling
Green where he moved after
being a pnrticipnnt on the
Central Oregon Community
Colllege team at Bend. In
Kentucky, he took part In
many inter-collegiate mate-til's
with other southeastern
universities. During his 1980
slicing break he went to
Florida to try out some of the
popular courses there.
Very recently, back In his
native state, he placed second
in the tournament at the
Pendleton Country Club. He
squeezed in a few practice
rounds at his home course.
Willow Creek, before leaving
his parent's home and heading
west to the Willamette Valley
Inst weekend to prepare to
compete in the Oregon Ama
teur, Monday and Tuesday at
Lake Oswego was taken up
with qualifying rounds. The
tup 32 men and top IB women
were then advanced to the
respective championship
flights for match play that will
go on from Wednesday
through .Saturday.
This summer Rawlins will
again he employed by the
Bend Country Club. When fall
O
comes, he will return to
Bowling Green where he will
continue to participate for
Western Kentucky on a re
newed athletic scholarship.
The even of Heppner s ports
fans will be watching the
progress of the son of Bill and
Jane Kawlins this week at
Lake Oswego.
Willow ladies -
host McNary,
Pendleton
The ladies of Willow Creek
Country Club hosted women
from McNary Golf and Coun
try Club and Pendleton Coun

try Club at a visitation, June
17.
Chairman for the luncheon
was Martha Peterson. She
was assisted by Sharon Har
rison, Lucile Peck and Betty
Riettnann. Lois Hunt was in
charge of play, and was
assisted by Fran Crook,
Juanita Carmichael, Eileen
PadlM-rg and Eddi Skow.
Leila Leitch of McNary won
low gross honors for the field
of nine-hole players and Jenny
Irby had the low gross score
for the 18 hole group.
Winning special awards
were: K P. No. 3 (2nd shot)
Gerry Cissna (PCC) and
Annetla Klinger (WCCC);
K.P. no. 8 (3rd hliw()-Mri
Hulett (McNary) and Linda
Shaw (WCCC); and long
drive Jean Weber (PCC) i?nd
Bev Gunderson (WCCC).

nine-hole group were: 1st low

Eight women also partici
pated in regular ladies' day
play later that afternoon.
