WHO Vehicle registration drive aimed at camper, trailer owners in Oregon A new effort to try to get some camper and travel-trailer owners to keep registra Imhim jHid was started this month by the Motor Vehicles Division. It is the latest of several moves the agency has made to enforce a law that says campers and travel trailers must be currently licensed even if they are not being used on the road. The problem has been around a long time, but it appears to be getting worse, according to DMV Adminis trator David P. Monmaw. As the price of gas has gone up, more camper and travel trailer owners seem to have decided not to use their units and do not renew license Irrigon news Frances Rose Wilson 922-3352 Itv Frances Hose Wilson NK.W IMH.K'KM AN-A new policeman has been hired for Irrigon and began his duties the first of the week. He is Robert Hoover, formerly of Rosoburg. where he was a security guard, and previous ly was a Iine County deputy sheriff. He is moving into the former Fred Walker house on N. Main Street according to Police Commissioner Bill Cooley. he has had experience in working with the fire department and other service departments in other communities where he has lived. He will be available to assist the Irrigon Rural Fire Dept. Cooley also stated that Hoover is interested in working with children and young people of the commun ity. His wife will be moving to Irrigon as soon as they can sell their property. ASSEMBLY OF C.OD-The regional Women's Minist ries groups from area Assem bly of Cod Churches met at the Irrigon Assembly on June 9 for a luncheon and meeting. Mrs. Ed Skultety of Hermis ton was the afternoon speaker. Mrs. Dale Zumwalt received the prize for coming from the farthest distance. Pastor and Mrs. Zumwalt were former pastors at Stanfield and have recently moved to Fossil to accept the pastorate there. Wash, were visitors in the house of Mary Stephens on Saturday Mrs. Kgginian is a neice. Mrs Charles i Grace Ba ri led of l.ynnwood spent HI days visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs Chester Wilson in Irri gon. She was joined by her husband who had been on assignment to the .John Day Dam in connection with his work with the Fish and Wildlife Service. He recently flew with a select group over Mt. St. Helens to survey the damage done to wildlife on the mountain. Tha Barlletts plan to return to Eastern Oregon in the fall to participate in bow hunting. HOME A; I--Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Dike and three children have returned from a two week vacation visiting family and friends in North Platte. Nebraska. The Dikeses manage the Irrigon Motel and Apartments. plates. Under the new fee collection procedure, camper and travel trailer owners who do not renew plates after they get the usual renewal reminder notice from DMV will get a second notice or billing. The second notice, Moomaw said, will be sent soon after the plates expire. It will remind owners of the legal require ment to keep these vehicles ; licensed and will also point out that if fees are not paid within 30 days DMV will turn the matter over to the Depart ment of Revenue for collec tion. This step means Revenue officials may withhold any tax refund that may be due to owners until hack registration fees are paid.
