In Forest receipts
Oregon gets almost $88 million

State of Oregon will receive
an estimated $R7.R35,386 from
National Forest Service re
ceipts, more than any other
state in the country, according
to a U.S. Dept. of Agriculture
release.
An estimated $223 million
will be shared by 43 states and
Puerto Rico as a result of 1980
national forest and national
grassland receipts.
Interim payments of the
state shares of the national
forest receipst will be made
during October 19HD. with the
balance paid during Decem
ber when final figures on the

About 7.260 jobless workers
may find their unemployment
checks cut off or reduced next
week because of Congress
battle over its new federal
budget.
Ray Thome, Administrator
of the Oregon Employment
Division, has reported that a
special jobless benefit fund for
ex-servicemen, former
federal
CETA public service workers,
and Trade Act recipients, will
run out of money June 6.
Checks can be resumed only
after Congress approves a
Carter administration request
for an additional $1.1 billion to
keep the fund solvent through
Sept. 30.
Regular state unemploy
ment insurance benefits are
not affected by the problem.
Those who are affected should
continue to report to the
Employment Division on their
regular report dates so that
benefits may be paid when
funds are available. Thome
advised.
Bristow party
at The Dalles
A birthday party honoring
Mrs. E.W. Bristow was held at
The Portage Inn in The Dalles
on Sunday, June 8. All of her 13
grandchildren and six great
grandchildren were present
and enjoyed swimming
throughout the day. Also
attending from The Dalles,
were Mrs. Lloyd Rice, and Mr.
& Mrs. Jim Sumner.

The freshmen and senior
classes placed 91 members
each on the honor roll, the

Cow belles
promote
beef
Morrow County CowBelles
will be passing out free
samples of beef cooked from a
stir-fry recipe at two Heppner
grocery stores June 14.
From 2 p.m. until closing.
CowBelles will be at Central
Market and Court St. Market
in Heppner in an effort to
promote beef sales for Fath
er's Day meals June 15.
The CowBelles will also be
giving out a new pamphlet on
stir-fry recipes.
Gift certificates for beef are
available at the Bank of
Eastern Oregon.
The CowBelles have been
promoting beef as a Father's
Day treat since 1953 at the
national level.

counted. Individuals who feel
that they or anyone else in
their family have been missed
should telephone the census
office at 1-3H9-IH7I). placing
their calls collect.

says the ' Were You Count
ed?" campaign is one of the
final phases of the 1!H0
Census.
"Callers who feel they have
been missed will have their
address checked against a
muster address list. In this
way we can add anyone who is
not on the list yet make sure
no one is counted twice. It's
simplv another way of Insur
ing that everyone is counted,"
Rasmussen said.
The district manager also
snid that the census office is
now checking to make sure a
questionnaire for every
household has been complet
ed Local residents hired as
census takers have been in the
field collecting questionnaires
for several weeks. They have
also had to contact households
that returned incomplete
forms.
As soon as all of the
questionnaires have been
gathered, the census office
will total the population and
housing counts and turn them
eve; to local officials for
review. Only statistical totlas
will be turned over-the indi
vidual census forms remain
confidential. The purpose of
the Local Review Program is
lo give local government
officials a chance to spot
errors in the counts while the
census offices are open and
census takers are able to
check the problems, This
effort is expected lo contribute
greatly to the accuracy and
success of the 10HO Census,
