The fair beings Aug. 23, and runs through Sept. 1. The books explain rules, categories, and awards of fered in the following depart ments: Agriculture-Horticulture; Arts and Crafts; Floral; Home Economics ; Hobby Show; Horse Show; Live stock; Photography; and Poultry. Linda Jones, a floral desig ner from Monmouth, has been appointed agriculture-hori-culture superintendent for the 1980 fair, according to Dwight Butt, fair director. The 1980 Fair theme "Heri tage into the 80's," will be . carried throughout the Agriculture-Horticulture depart ment. which will again be housed in the Jackman-Long Building, according to Mrs. Jones. Prospecti are available for the 1980 All Oregon Art Exhibition, Lyn and Steven Nance-Sasser, exhibition di rectors, have announced. Art will be accepted in the following categories: Profes sional; Amateur: Student Work (all Junior High and High School students); Young Work (all youngsters 12 years and under). Awards will total $4,500. But grades are not a sign of who will succeed, he said. People have been suc cessful if they are active in an organization, and have a goal in life. He told the students not to be alarmed if they are not sure what they want to do in life. Many students change their major in college three times or more he said. His goal out of college was to be an agricultural teacher. Bellamy warned the grad uates not to say, "I didn't allow for time." He told them not to get involved with drugs, alcohol, sex. cars and other worldly pleasures that can keep them from accepting responsibilities so they will say, "I didn't have time." "Look for your talents and develop them," he concluded. "We need you. your hopes and your dreams." Harold Snider presented the diplomas and Cathy Gutierrez ended the ceremony with the benediction. The lone band performed "Royal March" as the graduates left the gym. The class flower was the white rose, the class colors were red. black and white, and the class motto was "Behind us lie memories never forgot ten; Ahead of us lie adventur es never lived." National Honor Society members for the Class of 1980 were Carol Cheney, Timothy Holtz, Larry Snider, Terry Starr and Linda Pool. The other 15 graduates are Chris Cheney, Mike Conklin, Lori Edwards, Frank Engleman. Cathy Gutierrez, Tanna Hams, Virginia Johnson, Glen Krebs, Robin LaRue, Paula Lindstrom, Martha McEIli gott, Brenda Patton, Kim Pettyjohn, Jerry Rietmann and Dennis Stefani. Hoover visits Martha Hoover, a former teacher in the Irrigon High School in the 1950's, was a visitor in Irrigon recently. She stayed overnight with Mrs. Vera Cooley.
