Heppner golf ers falter second
day at district; finish third
Heppncr's Rolf team was in
second place in the District
Golf Tournament at Canida
last week after the first day of
competition.
But the second day proved
to be disasterous as the team
let Madras tie them for second
place with 686 strokes each.
That forced a nine-hole
playoff since the first two
teams at district go to the

"tate Golf Tournament at the
McNary course in Salem.
Heppner lost the nine-hole
playoff to Madras by 15
strokes.
Mac-Hi won the tournament
and will go to state along with
Madras. Heppner was third

scores the second day.
Jeff Edmundson tied for the
lead in the tournament at the
end of the first day shooting an

83 but the other top golfers
improved their scores and he
was nudged out of an indivi
dual spot at a trip to state. He
missed the cut by one stroke
with his 163 for the 36 holes.
The top golfer shot a 159. The
top four went to state.

Pettyjohn won a third place
state medal in the 200 meters
with a time of 26.7 seconds.
She was fourth in the 100
meters final with a timeof 12.9
seconds. She tied the lone
school record for the 100
meters with a time of 12.6
seconds in a preliminary heat.
Doherty fs third place finish
in the 400 meters came in a
time of 59.4 seconds. She also
broke the school record in a
preliminary heat with a time
of 59 seconds in the 400.
The lone girls tied for 10th
place with 16 team points. Lost
River won the state title for
the girls title with 51 points
with Warrenton second with
50.
