Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, May 21. 1980 College football coach speaks at Heppner All Sports Banquet about goals the guest speaker at the first Heppner High School All Sports Awards Banquet Mon day night. Turner has been coaching for 25 years, 17 in college, and led the EOSC team to a 8-2 season in football last year. He said a small minority is giving athletes a bad name with problems of cheating on school credits, marijuana, alcohol, etc. "The biggest problem I have is getting students to attend class," he said. Turner said athletes learn how to pick themselves up out of the dirt and to have values, courage and guts. "The best people I meet are people I recruit," he said. It takes a special person to be a coach's wife or an athlete's father or mother because it takes sacrifice, perseverence and dedication. Turner said goals are im portant because they can help an athlete achieve beyond what he thinks he can. "There is a thin, razor edge difference between champions and runner ups," Turner said. He added that he would like to congratulate all of those who were not awarded at the v sports banquet because it is the "support of their team mates" that led the one awarded to success. Eastern Oregon State Col lege Coach Don Turner was Three L's win Keglers League The Three L's bowling team consisting of Roxie Lovgren, Maureen "ward and Linda Schultz Cu.ne in first place in the Koffee Kup Keglers Bowl ing League. Second place went to the Pytts team. On it are Alma Vinson, LaRae Kindle and Ellen Kennedy. Iris Campbell rolled the high individual series of the year in the league with a 544. She also had the best average in the league with a iS7. Linda Schultz bowled the high individual game with her 227. The improved bowler was Ellen Kennedy, who improved her average by nine pins. Gateway Toyota wins league Since Kinzua Corp. won the first half and Toyota won the second half, there was a playoff with Gateway Toyota winning the first-place trophy. Inetia Cantin had the high ssrics for the year with a 588. Blackhorse Tavern had 2801 for high team series, high game of 225, and Gate way Toyota had high team game of 1020 for the year, game of 1020 for the year. An excellent breakfast was prepared by John Shaw, Dave Hanna, and Wayland Hyatt. Pat Edmundson and Linda Shaw were in charge of play. Marilyn Bigelow, Norma French, and Mary Beymer were in charge of cleaning the clubhouse kitchen prior to the event. Winners of low gross prizes were: 1st Cindy Kerr and Donny Lott (71 ) ; 2nd Pat and John Edmundson (75); 3rd Dee and Lowell Gribble (78); and 4th (tie) Clint and Marie McQuarrie and Bob and Ann O'Doherty (83). Low net winners were: 1st Ray and Norma French (90-45); 2nd John and Linda Shaw (73-47) ; 3rd (tie) Harold and Carol Kerr and Judge and Juanita Carmichael (87-51); and 4th Lois Hunt and Eddi Skow (87-55). Special prizes were given to Lowell Gribble for a putt of over 32 feet on hole No. 2 and to Cindy Kerr for a 2nd shot K.P. on hole No. 7. Hunt shoots 48, Shaw 43 in women's play Ten women in the morning and 13 in the afternoon played in Ladies' Day golf at the Willow Creek Country Club on May 13.
