Edmundson By Linda Shaw The last two weeks have been busy ones for golfers from Willow Creek Country Club, beginning May 2 with John Edmundson's fifth hole-in-one on the local course. Edmundson's ace came on hole No. 7, using a three wood. Gary Hunt reported that the shot looked great from the tee. but the men had difficulty locating the ball until someone decided to look in the clip. The men's group attended a visitation at the Echo Golf Course May 4. Local winners were: John Edmundson, first low gross; C.C. Ladies' Day play began May , 6 with groups playing in the morning and afternoon. The morning group meets for coffee at 8a.m. and tees off at 8:30. First day winners were Fran Crook, low gross, and Annetta Klinger. low net. The afternoon group begins play between 4:15 and 4:30. John Shaw; long drive by Bob Jepsen: and K.P. by Ed Gundersnn. The first family barbecue of the year, the afternoon of May 1 1. had 26 golfers participating in team best ball play. The winning team consisted of Ray Massey. John Shaw. Roxie Lovgren. and Charlene Isom. Women's long drive was won by Linda Shaw and men's by Gary Hunt. Ray Massey had K.P. The next barbecue will be May 25 at 4 p.m. Lott shoots 68 Don Lott shot a 68 on the Willow Creek Country Club course last Thursday to lead the Heppner golf team to a 278 to 290 win against Hermiston. Jeff Edmundson was one stroke back at 69 and Mike Lott shot a 70 for the 18 holes. Dorian Forrar shot a 71 and Curt Day a 73. Playing on the the JV team .Dean Skillicorn came through with a 70. The rest of the JV team had Bryan Kerr with 88. Shane Laughlin with 100. John Sum ner with 1 ti t and Darrel Miles with 106. Tin- JV team lost 341 to 362. The match was a warm up for the May 12 and 13 District 7-A High School Golfing Championships at Canida. Some AA schools also com peted in that match. The top two teams and the top four golfers at that meet will go on to state. Main Offict 9894221 Chemical Div. 422-72SV Two girls and five boys on the lone High School track team will be competing in the State Track Meet this week end in Portland as a result of some outstanding individual performances at the District 7-A Track Meet at Umatilla last week. Kim Pettyjohn will be competing in the 100 and 200 meters and Margaret Doherty will be in the 400 meters at state for the girls. The lone 400 meter relay team of Robin LaRue, Jeff Hams, Duane Fetsch and Gregg Rietmann will compete at state. LaRue will also com pete in 110 and 300 hurdles, Rietmann in the 200 meters and Jerry Rietmann in the pole vault. Team members broke five lone school records at the district meet. Doherty set a school record and a District 7-A record Saturday when she finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 59.2 seconds. She also set a school record in the 200 meters in a preliminary heat with a time of 26.2 seconds. Doherty finished third in the 200 meters in the finals Saturday with a time of 26.7 seconds. Petty john was second in 26.6 seconds to qualify as the top two finishers in each event go to state. Pettyjohn was second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.9 seconds. lone's girls finished sixth in the district with 32 team points. Weston-McEwen won the girls title. lone was third in the boys competition with 83 points. Rice, Steagall Lee Rice tied for first place in the bareback riding compe tition aid Jana Steagall was first in the pole bending to lead the Heppner High School Rodeo team at the John Day Rodeo last weekend. Brett Sherer was second in the steer wrestling and Stea gall was second in the breakaway roping. The 400 meter relay team set a school record with a time of 45.03 seconds." LaRue set a school record in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles as he placed first in a time of 41.74 seconds. Jim McCabe set the fifth school record in the 400 meters with a time of 52.9 seconds but he just missed qualifying for state as he was nosed out at the finish line and took third place. Gregg Rietmann qualified for state in the 200 meters as the speedster took second in 23.5 seconds. LaRue qualified for state in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.7 seconds for second place. Jerry Rietmann was first in the pole vault with a mark of 119 Other marks that placed at district had Gregg Rietmann fifth in the long jump at 19-1. Terry Starr third in the discus at 127-5. Fetsch fourth in the KM) meters at 11.94 and Hams fifth in the 100 meters at 11.95. Starr was fifth in the shot put at 41-11' j, Hams was fifth in the 400 meters at 54.92. Les Thompson placed fifth in the lit) high hurdles in 17.4 and Mike Conklin was sixth in 17.7 seconds. Les Thompson placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 11 feet. McCabe was fifth in the 2iH) meters with a time of 24.2 seconds. Thompson was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a clocking of 42.68 seconds The I6IM) meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 3:42.9. lead cowboys Rocky Steagall was sixth in the calf roping. Tara Mahonev sixth in the breakaway roping and Jana Steagall sixth in the barrels and tied for ninth in the cow cutting Mike Currin placed seventh in the calf roping. Rocky Steagall was eighth in the cutting and ninth in the team roping with partner Don Kindsfather, Also competing were Cliff Dougherty. Jeff Bailey and Marie Van Schoiack. Filly golfers fourth at district Lottie Laughlin shot a 2m score for 36 holes to place fifth in the district leading the Heppner girls golf team to a fourth place finish out of 10 teams at the District 7-A championships in Redmond Laughlin just missed going to state as t he top two finishers gel to go the state meet.
