Junior High boys split in track
meet while girls place second
Heppner Jr. High lost to
Riverside and Umatilla but
beat Echo and Ukiah in a boys
track meet last week in
Heppner.
Riverside won the meet with
130 points, Umatilla had 1276,
Heppner had 104 points,
Echo had 20 and Ukiah 13.
: Greg Orr was first in the
high jump, Eric Thompson
third and Todd Miller fifth.
Randy Smith was second in
the 300 meter hurdles. Tom
Hammon was fifth in the shot

Morrow County high school
track athletes have had some
good scores in meets this
season, which is evident when
looking at the season best
results from all schools in
district 7-A.
Heppner's Jim Parker has
the best discus toss in the
district with a throw of 144-3.
Terry Starr of lone is second
at 136-11.
Parker also has the best
shot put throw at 51-10.
; Tracy Johnson of Riverside
is first in the javelin at 181-7
with Dan Pettigrew, also of
Riverside, fourth at 146-4 and
Cardinal Starr sixth at 145-7.
Johnson is also second in the
high jump at 6 feet with

Heppner JV loses to junior high

Pendleton scored nine runs in
the fourth inning after trailing
3-0 after three innings to take
a 9-4 win against the Heppner
JV team last week.
"We didn't play too badly
most of the ball game but the
rain kind of cut short our
momentum and John Murray

Pat Struthers was third in
the 1200 meter run. The 400
meter relay team of Orr,
Miller, Mary Way and Archie

long jump at 20-4 1, Heppner's
Earl Hammond is fifth at 19-2

Stefani of lone sixth at 39-6.

Johnson is first at 11-6. Les
Thompson second at 11-0 and
Jerry Rietmann is tied with
Thompson with a vault of 11-0.
Ione's 400 meter relay team
has the third best time in the
district at 46.2. Umatilla is
first at 45.5.

seconds and Mike Conklin
sixth at 17.9 seconds.
Gregg Rietmann has the
fifth best time in the district in
the 200 meters with his time of
24.1 seconds.

boy at the recent Finley
Saddle Club Annual Rodeo in

ball begins this Saturday with
six teams participating.

Mustangs hid to
remain in first place
The Heppner Mustang base
bull defense broke down In the
final two innings as the team
committed three errors lead-
ing to a come-from-behind 8-5
win for Wasco County.
. "The defense played well
for the first six innings but the
errors killed us in the final
two," Coach Dale Holland
said.
Heppner scored first in the
fifth inning when Chris Zita
walked and moved around
scoring on a fielder's choice.
Waseo also scored a run in
the fifth inning.
Heppner took a 4 1 lead in
the sixth inning when John
Murray was hit by a pitch,

Condon girls beat
lone boys in tennis
Ione's boys tennis team
found out the hard way that
the girls in Condon know how
to play the net as the Cardinal
boys lost to the girls winning
only one mutch.
The doubles team of Troy

the boys lost all of their singles
matches The Condon girls
were scheduled to pluy the
lone girls but there were not
any girls on the Cardinal team
in school that day.
