Echo had only one competi tor on its team and he scored five points. Stanfield, River side and Umatilla did not send teams to the meet as sche duled. Heppner had more first place finishes, nine to eight, but it was depth again for lone that led to the victory. Jim Parker was first in the high jump with a leap of 5-8, first in the shot put with a throw of 48-10 and first in the discus with a throw of 137-11'4. Dennis Stefani was a double winner for lone in the long jump at 19-7M and the triple jump at 39-9'i. Todd Sherer was a double winner for Heppner with a time of 56.8 in the 400 meters and 2:11.9 in the 800 meters. Robin LaRue was another double winner for lone in the 110 high hurdles in 17 seconds and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 43.8. Other winners had Les Thompson of lone first in the pole vault at 10-6, Terry Starr first in the javelin at 145-24, Mike Jones of Heppner first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.3 seconds, Larry Palmer first in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:38, Gregg Rietmann first in the 200 meters for lone . with a time of 24.8 and Dan Nix of Heppner first in the 3.000 meter run with a time of 10:23.1. Heppner won the 1600 meter relay in a time of 4:11 with Larry Palmer, Sherer, Jari Alasuvanto and Duane Gar rett splitting the distance. lone won the 400 meter sprint relay in 47.5 seconds. Running for the Cards were Jeff Hamms, Stefani. Riet mann and LaRue. Both relays were won easily by the respective teams as lone was second in the 1600 meter relay with a time of 4:58.3 and Heppner second in the 400 meter relay with a time of 50.4. Jerry Rietmann was second in the pole vault at 10-6 and Garrett of Heppner third at 8-6. Thompson was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-6, Shawn LaRue was third at 5-6, and Donnie Taylor fourth at 5-2. All are Cardinals. Baseball team wins (Continued from page 8) in the seventh inning. Still down 8-7, Ron Young started the seventh inning with a walk and Tim Hedman followed with a single. Fresh man Jay Hayes laid down a bunt to sacrifice the runners but the Condon pitcher threw the ball away for a two-base error allowing Heppner to win the game. Dale Holland was the win ning pitcher. John Bier had two hits including a double, Rick Cole and Doug Holland had two hits and John Murray had two hits and three RBI. Heppner had nine runs on 11 hits and three errors and Condon had eight runs on nine hits and four miscues. Doug Holland pitched a four . hitter in the second game pitching a complete five-inning game, striking out five and walking four. Heppner led 2-0 at the end of the first inning when Doug Holland doubled and Murray smacked a two run home run. In the second inning, Gro shens walked, Hayes hit a single and Jay Patterson hit a single scoring two runs. Patterson was two-for-two at the plate in the second game and Coach Dale Holland said freshman Jay Hayes had his "best day" of the season. But overall. Coach Holland said sophomores Murray and Doug Holland are leading the team. "They are hitting the ball a ton," he said. Doug Holland has 14 hits in 25 at-bats this season for a .560 batting average and Murray is 10-of-25 for an average of .400.
