Porter, a Eugene attorney, has filed for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. Bob Paek woodr Republican. Porter served two terms in Congress, 1957-1961. and as a Food for Peace consultant on President John F. Kennedy's White House staff in 1961. He is 60 years old. For his primary election opponent. State Sen. Ted Kulongoski of Lane County, Porter had only praise. "Our campaigns during the primary will help the winner gain momentum," he said. A proposal by Portland engineer George Ward made last week said the sludge would go "hand in glove" with the new alcohol plant that is being proposed. Ward said the sludge would help corn to grow and the corn could he used in the alcohol plant. "We still do not have any Idea how much money the sludge would bring to the county or what it will do for us." Another prospective sludge tenant, I.M. Docken, has reserved .IB acres of port land to use as a sludge disposal site but Toadvin said it is just reserved and has not been leased. "If sludge does come to Morrow County, the Port of Morrow will he involved," Toadvin said Afler the meeting.
