Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Gene Cassens
Couple wed in home rites

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale
Holland of 335 North Gale SI.
in Heppner, was married to
Jimmy Gene Cassens, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cassens,
Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. in a
ceremony at the home of the
bride.
Justice of the Peace Char
lotte Gray performed the
ceremony.
The bride wore a floor
lenRth gown of nylon tulle that
was worn by her mother at her
wedding. The gown was de
signed with a V -neckline with
lace inserts trimmed with
equina and seed pearls.
rench lace panels were inset
in the full skirt and she wore
tulle and lace mitts. The
bride's bouquet was a nosegay
bouquft of white roses, daises,
mums, carnations and baby's
breath.
The matron of honor was
Elizabeth Johnson, friend of
the bride. Her gown was a
V-neck knit, knee length and
tied at the waist by a belt.
The Best man was Allen
Cassens, brother of the groom
from Pendleton. The bride
was given away by her father,
Dale Holland
The wedding music song of
"We've Only Just Begun" was
sung by Jim Ackley.
Raren Holland, the bride's
mother, wore a blue and white
houndstoolh pant suit. Betty
Cassens. the groom's mother, ?
wore a dark blue with red
flowered knit dress which was
gathered at the waist with a
blue belt.
The bride's grandmother
decorated the home with
flowers in yellow and blue,
with white rose buds, yellow
daisies and gyposphelia. The
stairway was lighted by can
dles and the bride was
escorted down the stairway by
her father.
A reception followed the
ceremony at the Holland
home.
The going-away outfit worn
by the bride consisted of a
cream-colored knit dress with
a blue buttoned belt and lace
on the pocket.
The couple will reside in
Corvallis.
Jim Cassens graduated
from Pendleton High School in
1977 and is currently attending
school at Oregon State Univer
sity Diane (Holland) Cassens
graduated from Heppner High
School in 1978. attended Blue
Mountain Community College
in Pendleton -in 1979 and is
currently employed as a store
detective at a Payless store in
Corvallis.
Two new adult classes
Interested students can still
sign up for Blue Mountain
Community College adult
courses in the Heppner area,
according to Nancy Brown
field, coordinator.
The tole painting class is full
but there is plenty of room in
most of the other classes,
Brownf ield said. If 10 or more
people do not sign up for a
class, it may have to be
dropped, she added.
Courses available for the
spring quarter term are
intermediate golf, beginning
golf, oriental cooking, guitar,
auto mechanics for women,
calligraphy, typing, expectant
parents, two sections of ten
nis, microwave cooking, field
.bird identification and a
science weather seminar.
Troedson grants
available to
seniors
Application forms for the
Carl W. Troedson Grant-in-Aid
program will be distri
buted next week to the offices
of the three high schools in
Morrow County for comple
tion by senior students.
; Students who have pre
viously held Troedson Grants
' ln-Aid are eligible to apply for
renewals of their grants.
Students who are receiving
.Troedson grants during the
current year are being sent a
direct mailing of the applica
tion forms. Applications forms
are also available in the
Morrow County School Dis
trict Office in Lexington.
' The deadline for completing
'and submitting applications is
Maya.
Cost is $11 per college credit
given for the class. AH of the
classes are either for one or
two credits. Both cooking
classes have special lab fees
in addit ion to the credit charge
and the expectant parent class
is $18 per couple.
Two new spring classes are
the field bird identification,
which includes several local
field trips and a weekend trip
to the Malheur National Game
Refuge, and auto mechanics
for women, which prepares
women drivers to operate and
service their own cars safely
and economically.
More information about the
classes, their location, time,
and cost may be obtained by
calling Brownfield at 676-5039.
Most of the classes begin
next week.

meet is set

Luncheon meeting starts at
11 a.m.

planned

fourth reunion will take place
June 28 and 29. For the best

reunion, organizers would like,

kenbine of Heppner are an
nouncing the engagement of
their daughter, Connie, to
David McLachlan, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Darrel McLachlan of
Heppner.
Connie Burkenbine is a 1979
graduate of Heppner High
School and is currently a
student at the Modern Busi
ness College in Kennewick,
Wash.
McLachlan is a 1976 gradu
ate of Heppner High School
and is employed by the Kinzua
Corp. in Heppner.
A Sept. 6 wedding is
planned.
OBITUARY
Marylou Kelly
Memorial services for
Marylou Kelly took place
March 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the
All Saints Episcopal Church in
Heppner.
Mrs. Kelly died March 11 at
Community Hospital in Pen
dleton at the age of 52.
She was born Nov. 25, 1927 in
Heppner and attended the
local schools until she went to
Whitman College in Walla
Walla where she graduated in
1949.
She married Robert C. Kelly
at All Saints Episcopal Church
June 7, 1950. Mrs. Kelly was a
member of the church.
A private graveside service
took place March 15 at 10 a.m.
at the Heppner Masonic Ce
metery. Survivors include her hus-'
band. Robert, and parents
Raymond B. and Coramae
Ferguson, all of Heppner;
daughters Luanne Hural of
McMinnville, and Shannon
Kelly of Heppner. There are
two grandchildren.
Contributions may be made
to the All Saints Episcopal
Church for a memorial fund in
her name.
Burns Mortuary in Pendle
ton was in charge of the
arrangements.
Museum Curator injured
Last Saturday, Museum
Curator Rachel Harnett fell at
work and needed to be taken to
the hospital.
She told visitors that she
was not as concerned about
herself as she was about her
long-time friend and neighbor
Mary Nikander, with whom
she had been staying at nights
while Nikander was conva
lescing. Monday, Nikander was
moved into the hospital for
special care. Tuesday the
women were visiting together
before Harnett made ready to
go to Issaquah with her son
Melvin Harnett to visit in his
home until after Easter.
Family gathers to fete birthday
Erda Picpcr of Lexington
had as her house guests
recently her daughter. La velle
Nelson, from Newport and
Marcie Hall and her daughter,
Jodi, from Milwaukic. They
came to celebrate Mrs. Pie
per's birthday along with Mr.
and Mrs. Arnie Pieper of
Hermiston.

Adventist Church in Heppner

Meetings begin at 7:15 each
evening except Monday and
Thursday, and are scheduled
to continue through April 15.
An added feature is the
travelogue presented by Ruth
Fenton before the service. She
grew up in China where her
parents were missionaries,
and after they were married,
she and her husband served
six year in Taiwan as mission
aries. They have a large
number of slides that show
beautiful scenery and interest
ing ways of life in other
countries.
Some evenings, instead of
the travelogue, they show a
film that fits into the theme of
the evening's sermon. Two
films that are coming up are
"Johnny Lingo", to be shown
the evening of March 30 when
Pastor Fenton will speak
about the home: and "Sorry,
Baby", coming April 1, when
the subject for the evening will
be "Suicide by Inches".
The public is welcome to
drop in for any of the
meetings. Pastor Fenton be
lieves that the conditions of
the world and the times in
which we live demand honest
answers to questions people
are asking.
"In the troubled times in
which we live." he said, "we
need to know more and more
about what the Bible says. It's
the light for today's darkness."
