A fun filled week was the well earned vacation for Mrs." Herman (Alma) Green and Gladys' VanWinkle when they visited Mrs. "Green's brother, Jack Van Winkle, at his home in Salome, Arizona recently. Mr. VanWinkle met the ladies Sunday in Phoenix which began a week long busy time including a trip to San Luis, Mexico, mining'in the , mountains, a visit to the Yuma Prison and Havasu Lake. ; Each day',was' something new and , different for the group, which some of the time included two other Heppner ites. Arizona and during their- travels happened t to ' meet former Lexington residents" Mr. and Mrs. Hermann' Wal lace, also vacationing there The committee on women's activities of Lexington Grange met at the home of Barbara Cutsforth Tuesday. An election of officers took place with the following elec ted: Delpha Jones re-elected chairman: Charlene Papineau as vice chairman and Josie Peck secretary. A project of honoring the grange members on their birthdays was planned with Charlene Papineau as chair man. A cake will be served at each meeting honoring all those with birthdays for that month. It was voted that the grange will be responsible for the crowning activities at the Morrow County Fair, the rodeo queen and her court. This is planned for April 19 at the Fair pavilion. There will be a potluck dinner and program with the grange furnishing the meat dish, after which there is planned a program for the evening and the coronation. All are invited to the activities honoring Queen Lori Edwards of Lexington and her princesses Nancy Miller of Lexington and Lottie Laughlin of Heppner. The Lexington City Council is taking applications for someone to fill the positions of water and bill collector. Mrs. Wilbur Steagall is resigning from the post that she has held for several years. Anyone interested is to contact the city council at its next meeting. Grace Leathers is spending some time in Pendleton with her daughter. She spent se veral days in St. Anthony's Hospital after suffering from a fall at her home in Lexington. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hunt motored to Hermiston Sunday taking Mr. Kummberland there to Good Shepherd Hospi tal. Lexington Grange met Mon day night for its regular meeting with the Master Barbara Cutsforth in the chair. A potluck dinner was enjoyed and the program followed at 8 p.m. Barbara Bloodsworth. the Morrow County clerk, gave an interes ting program concerning vot ing registration and law changes over the years. One of the important things dis cussed was the registration of the younger people. There is a concern of why they do not register and vote as this is truly a great privilege enjoyed by Americans. Following the question and answer period the meeting resumed, with a resolution concerning the in secticide usage and weed control discussed and passed. The wheat farmers and alfalfa growers must keep abreast of laws and petitions concerning their usage. A fidelity bond was purchased and insurance on the hall and furnishings was discussed. Mr. Smouse and Mr. Nelson reported on their trip to the Sherman County experimental station field trip. The officers that were not previously installed were in stalled at this time by Past Master Kenneth" Smouse.
