Bier, Sherer lead Heppner JV to overtime upset win over Riverside
Robert Bier scored 18 points
making 8 of 11 shots from the
field to lead the Heppner JV
team to a 56-53 overtime win
oer the Riverside Pirates.
Brett Sherer sank one free
throw in the last minute of the
game to tie the score at 53-K
and send the game intc
overtime. He then sank thr
free throws in the overtimi
period as the Mustangs helc

Medicine
workshop
planned
A sports medicine workshop
scheduled for Feb. 22 and 25
will be the fifth program
offered in the health education
series sponsored by St. An
thony Hospital in Pendleton.
The program is directed
toward coaches, recreation
leaders, parents and anyone
directly involved in sports or
supervising sports and recrea
tion activities. This workshop
is designed to assist indivi
duals in handling injuries and
other emergencies that occur
in sports and recreation.
The faculty for the program
is Charles Weeks. M.D..
orthopedist, Pendleton; Lea
W. Morty, assistant professor.
Portland State University and
former trainer for the Trail
blazers; and Mike Voight,
graduate assistant. Portland
University.
There is no charge for this
program and pre-registration
is not required. A 1-hour credit
through Portland State Uni
versity may be obtained if
desired for a $19 fee.
The program will be in the
auditorium at St. Anthony
Hospital Friday Feb. 22, 7-9
p.m. and Saturday Feb. 23, 8
a.m. -12 noon.

Basketball League play last
Sunday 41-35.
Tom Pointer scored 11 and
Marlyn scored 12 for the
winners and Ron Green and
Don Papineau scored 8 each
for the losers.
Rick Johnston's team beat
Roger Britt's team 68-59. Britt
scored 18, Jay Coil 14 and Dick
Devin 10 for the losing team
while Gary Watkins scored 22,
Tim Adams 15 and Duane
Neiffer 10 for the winners.
Dave McLachlen scored 31
points, Jim Lankford 20, Lee
Padberg 12 and Dave Allstott
10 as Lankfocd's team beat
Don Barber 84-51. Mike Row
ell, Dan Coiner and McCabe
all scored 10 for the losing
team.
LaVerne Van Marter beat
Steve Powell's team 54-41 with
Van Marter scoring 17 and
Mark Huddleson 15. Brent
Eggars led the losing team
with 13 points and Dana
Heidamann added 10.
Next week Smith (5-3) plays
Barber (3-5) at 5 p.m., Powell
(4-4) plays Britt (0-8) at 6, Van
Marter (7-1) plays Schwab
(2-6) at 7 and Lankford (8-0)
plays Johnston (3-5) in the
final game.

Riverside made 24-of-53 for
.453 pecent. Don Lott had nine
assists in the game and Brian
Thompson had four steals and
six rebounds.
Sherer finished the game
with 12 points, Sweeney had
10, Thompson 8, Lott 4 and
Earl Hammond scored 4
points.
Heppner JVs also beat
Condon last week 75-36 with
Bier again leading the scoring
with 18 points as he made an
amazing 9-of-10 shots from the
floor.
Sweeney had 11 points,
Sherer 10. Joe Struthers 8,
Lott 7. Hammond 6, Joe
Mollahan 5, Thompson 4,
Kelly Crewse 3 and Harry
Groshens 3.
Hammond had 10 rebounds,
Lott had four assists and
Sherer had four steals.
The team plays at Pilot
Rock tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
and at home Saturday against
Weston-McEwen in another
4:30 game.
