PUBLIC NOTICE
Bacteriological Standards Exceeded
in the City of Heppner Water Supply. The
City of Heppner reports that the water
supply failed to meet Federal bacterio
logical standards during December 1979.
Analysis of monthly drinking water
samples Indicated that the December
, sample was positive for conform
organisms and that this result exceeded
the limit allowed by law. The coliform
organism is used as an indicator of
microbiological quality, and while these
organisms pose no threat to health, their
presence does Indicate that a source of
contamination might exist somewhere in
the water system. An Investigation by
the City was initiated as soon as the
positive sample was reported. Chlorina
tion was immediately Instituted and
subsequent samples of the drinking
water were negative to coliform.
