Morrow County this past week
causing a variety of problems.
Heavy snows hit early last
week totaling 18 inches or
more in some areas of the
county. Motorists had trouble
with the snow as school was
closed last Thursdav and the
sheriff's office had many calls
concerning cars getting stuck
and being stranded. The
Highway from Heppner to
Condon was closed for a few
days.
The snow stopped Thurs
day but high winds of close to
50 miles per hour hit the
county causing snow drifts in
many places
Columbia Basin Electrical
Cooperative in Heppner re
ported the main power line
from the Bonneville Power
Administration was lost for
five minutes Saturday. It cut
off electricity to lone,

the Morrow County Sheriff's
office for the week ending Jan.
14 are:
Orville Cutsforth. Rt. 2. Box
2082 in Heppner. reported two
.30 caliber luger pistols with
pearl handles as stolen. They
are valued at $500 each. He
had them hidden in his
basement and they were taken
sometime between Oct. 15 and
Jan. 11. He is offering a
reward and anyone who knows
anything about it can call him
at fi7fi-94:i(. Cutsforth said.
Pastor Hay Plank of the
Hillview Christian Center,
reported the death of Robert
Gerald Raines in Boardman.
Raines lived in a trailer on the
Morrow County Produce pro
perty. A warrant was sent out for
the arrest of Nicholas Robert
Delt. Rt. 1. Rox lfifi in
Umatilla. He has been charg
ed with criminal trespass in
the second degree, criminal
mischief in the third degree,
attempted theft in the second
degree and contempt of court.
A. stolen car was recovered
Jan. 7 north of the Bombing
Range in Boardman. The
engine was missing and the
vehicle was burned. It was a
lflfifi Chevy owned by Everett
Moore. No. 24 Desert Springs
in Boardman.

Rd. Trl. Ct. E-3 in Boardman:
Calvin Lynn Thomason and
Alvin Leroy Thomason, both
of Boardman: were all cited
for criminal trespass on the
Sun River Farms in Board
man. The Thomasons were
arrested on previous war
rants. Alvin Thomason had a
warrant out for his arrest for
open container and criminal

Wheat yields in most east
ern Oregon counties were
about normal. However,
planting costs were higher in
the Columbia Basin, Oregon's
major wheat growing area,
because winter weather de
stroyed much acreage that
had to be reseeded to spring
wheat.
Sales of specialty products
(nurseries, greenhouses, hol
ly, bulbs, Christmas trees,
farm forestry) jumped 24
percent to $173 million.
Field crop sales declined for
the second year in a row. Sales
of $114 million represent a 15
percent drop from 1978. Fewer
acres and depressed prices for
potatoes and overproduction
in mint account for the drop,
said Miles.
Thirty-two counties showed
increased sales in 1979. Three
(Crook, Jefferson, and Mor
row) reported no change from
1978 sales figures, and one
(Wheeler) reported a drop in
sales.

ington. Manager Fred Toombs of
CRFC said (he company lost
many poles in the system.
"We caught the devil,"
Toombs said. "We are still
trying to clean it all up."
Toombs said CBEC has been
patroling the lines but not all
of the poles that were blown
over have been found yet.
"It has been a circus,"
Toombs said. "Most of the
poles are outside the areas of
towns. They are out in the
boondocks somewhere in the
mud and slush."
Toombs said some cus
tomers had power out for up to
four hours.
The snow began melting
quickly Sunday and county
officials said they were sur
prised Willow Creek did not :
flood. Mud slides were
reported to the sheriff's office
between Lexington and lone.
The National Weather Bur
eau in Pendleton does not
expect another snow storm
this week. Temperatures will
be normal for this time of the
year with temperatures in the
30s for highs and 15 to 25 for
the lows. Some rain showers
are expected.
