For example, egg nog
and cheeses of all sorts are
often served during the
holidays. They're fun to eat
and they provide a substan
tial amount of nutrients,
especially calcium.
Nuts can count as foods
in the meat group since
they contain a significant
amount of iron and protein.
Of course fruits and
vegetables are great sour
ces of vitamins A and C.
And many hostesses are
serving them with yogurt
or cottage cheese dips,
making a nutritious, low
calorie combination.
Breads and cereals sup
ply B vitamins as well as
energy.
But the biggest thing to
remember, the Oregon
Dairy Council says, is to
practice moderation in
your holiday snacking. A
bit of preventive weight
control now can avoid the
need to make a New Year's
resolution to lose excess
pounds later.
