Judge's appointment heads list for Atiyeh
SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORT
(See related story, Page one)
Gov. Vic Atiyeh, now travel
ing in the Far East, will return
$o his desk in Salem on
Monday. One of the first
matters for his attention,
according to Shirley Wood
row, an assistant, will be the
appointment of the new Mor
row County judge.
Sheaid two names will be
considered, those of"John
Mollahan, Heppner who has
been recommended by the
Democratic Central Commit
tee, and Daniel A. Creamer of
Irrigon, who submitted his
application directly to the
governor's office.
Woodrow said she has the
responsibility of making back
ground checks on the two
persons before the governor
makes a decision.
"With all appointments we
want biographical informa
tion," she said. "In Molla
han's case, we have only his
name, submitted by the
Democratic Central Commit
tee.
"We have written to him for
this, and in addition we will
make general calls in the area
to get a perspective on the
nominee."
Woodrow said the governor
will either select between the
two candidates or select a new
person.
The final choice would be a
Democrat to succeed County
Judge D.O. Nelson, who has
resigned effective Oct. 15.
Nelson is a Democrat.
