Around About
Cont. from page 4
Did you all see the not-quite-finished 45th Anniversary
quilt that their family and friends are putting together for
Edna and Harold "Shorty" Peck? It ranks among some very
special quilts made in the county, such as the three old
"name" quilts from Heppner, Lexington and lone and the
Bicentennial quilt which hang in our County Museum.
Most of this year's organizational booths were very good.
The small, corner rodeo booth that Faye Seitz masterminded
was surely worth of its blue ribbon. Faye collected many
interesting rodeo items old pictures and treasured articles
used by past performers. Among those who loaned precious
items was Inez Erwin who loaned Harold's hat and various
equipment which he had used as a performer, announcer and
several times as grand marshal.
Some small difficulties related to the matter of peoples'
age cropped up last week. I goofed by writing that senior
citizens were those 55 or older. The 55 age holds for some
activities such as the senior dinners, but not for fair passes
which state on them "62 years old and over." Sometimes and
in some places 60 is the magic number, other times and
places it is 65. The U.S. government says we may work until
70 without being forced to retire it is pretty confusing to
really know when one is truly a senior citizen.
On Sunday afternoon, young people eager to get rich
quick in the coin hunts needed to be sure of the three different
age groups that were eligible. Fair Committee Chairperson
Delpha Jones was called upon to state the age rules. I can't
report how rich anyone got maybe the IRS will tell us later.
My 11-year-old grandson was mighty disappointed to learn
that the coin scramblers had to be under 10 years old.
With the three rodeos and the big Saturday morning
parade led by Grand Marshal Cornett Green still to
come the residents of Morrow County are again
demonstrating that they can accomplish so much when they
get their many and widely assorted talents working together.
