40 years of Morrow County Fair and
Rodeo lead to Grand Marshall role
Cornett Green, a participant
in Morrow County Rodeos for.
40 years, will serve as parade
marshall for the 1979 Rodeo
Parade beginning at 10 a.m.,
August 25.
Cornett was selected by the
county fair and float commit
tees and will ride at the head
of the parade on his favorite
horse, "Socks", a ball-faced
sorrel, wearing Western garb
and a tan Stetson.
He will also continue his
competition in the rodeo as a
header in the team roping
event with Lee Ansotegui.
Born and raised in Heppner,
Cornett has helped line up
entries in the traditional rodeo
parade for 10 years and for
years has helped with the line
up of rodeo livestock and
moved cattle through the
stock pens.
The former owner of the
Green Feed Store, before its
Straigllt-sllootin,
western wear.

Cornett Green
sale three years ago, Cornett
had 1J& years of experience
operating the feed store and 24
years as a grain-buyer for the
Balfour -Guthrie and Com
pany, a world-wide company,
at the Heppner grain elevator.
Though retired, he enjoys
the fun of competing in the
Morrow County Rodeo and in
1965, won the calf roping
competition and a saddle from
the Kinzua Corporation. One
year, he participated with a
neck collar while recovering
from a broken neck, suffered
when he fell off a load of wool.
The most serious injury he
has sustained at rodeo was a
dislocated shoulder.
Cornett enjoys watching the
youngsters compete in local
rodeos and remembers that
the first rodeo in Heppner was
held in a bucking arena at the
