Senior Citizen News:
Day spent in
the mountains
The big event of last week
for the senior citizens of this
county was the annual day in
the mountains together. More
than 60 seniors enjoyed games
and visiting in Cutsforth Park
most of a very warm Wednes
day. July 18.
Some tossed frisbees and
many more played bingo. All
enjoyed the mountain air
which stimulated their appe
. tites for the large noon meal
prepared by cooks Eleanor
Gonty and Marilyn Bergstrom
under the direction of Pat
Brindle.
The dinner menu at the
three county mealsites next
week will include: at Irrigon
on Monday, July 30, Turkey
. rice casserole, stewed toma
toes, pear salad, raisin-bran
muffins, lemon delight cake
with topping.
Tuesday, July 31, at Hep
pner: sweet and sour meat
balls over rice, buttered
spinach, molded jello salad,
oatmeal muffins with butter
and jelly and lemon delight
cake with topping.
On Wednesday, August 1 at
lone and Heppner: Swiss
steak with mushroom gravy,
mashed potatoes, 24 hour
cabbage salad, buttered corn,
biscuits with jelly, tapioca
pineapple pudding with top
ping. On August 1, the chief cook
Eleanor Gonty will begin a
month vacation period. The
Gontys are expecting their
youngest son Charles Douglas
and his bride Anastasia to
.arrive from Europe early in
August to visit with them most
of that month.
While Eleanor vacations
Ruth Bergstrom will be the
substitute cook and will be
preparing meals along with
her daughter Marilyn who is
the regular assistant cook.

It's easy
Jerry Sweeney, a Heppner "youngster" on the down side of 50, has found a sport that
really gets him off the ground skydiving. The Heppner Mayor first tried parachuting
at Condon over the Fourth of July and since, has travelled to a special training school
near Kelso, Washington, to pursue his new-found thrill. For those who couldn't believe
the story a couple weeks ago, here's J.F. in action.
