Brave hitting keeps
team in first place
The Braves are in first place
in the Heppner Little League
with a 3-0 record. The Dodgers
are in second place, 2-1,
Giants, third, 1-2 and the
Angels in fourth place, 0-3.

..The Braves surprised the
Giants 9-4 Monday night on the
three hit pitching of Jason
Mullinaux who fanned 11
batters. Tom Hammen went
three for three at the plate for
the Braves and Tom James
clobbered a home run and a
double for the Giants.
On Tuesday night, the
Dodgers came from behind to
take the Angels, 6-5 at Condon.
Mike Rietmann, Todd Lindsay
and Steve Crewse combined
their pitching to a no-hit game
against the Angels, despite
giving up eight walks. Todd
Lindsay was the winning
pitcher striking out 13 batters.
Todd Lindsay hit a home run
and Loren Mayes added a
triple.
The Braves out-slugged the
Giants, 18-6 as the Braves
scattered 13 hits. Kenny
Graves belted a three run
homer in the second inning
and Stan Sporseen was three
for five at the plate for the
Braves. Travis Hyatt hit two
doubles and a triple for the
Giants. Tom Hammen was the
winning pitcher with 11 strike

On Thursday, the Dodgers
again squeaked by the Angels,
3-2. The score was tied at two
for four innings, then Loren
Mayes started the fifth inning
with a single, stole second.
Steve Crewse followed it up
with a sacrifice fly to drive in
the winning run.

derson collected the only hits
for the Angels.

Two juniors, Ron Young and
Jackie Gentry were recipients
of "I Dare You Awards"
sponsored by the American
Youth Foundation for students
who display outstanding char
acter and leadership.
Drama awards were given
to Jackie Mollahan, best
supporting actress, Jeff For
tenberry, best supporting
actor, Marie Yocom, best
actress, Bill Kenny, best actor
and Bob Miller, best all
around drama.
Paula Palmer was named
as the top math student based
on the National Mathematics
Exam.
Awards were also presented
to this year's cheerleaders,
Rosanna Marlatt, Barb Dev
ine, Kaedene Hollomon, Patty
Huddleston, Patty Devine,
Susan Johnson and Lynn Dee
Devin.
Scott Sherer was honored
for his video-taping work.

auction will begin at 10:30
a.m. with Don Winks calling
the bids. The pit-barbecued
beef dinner with all kinds of
salads and baked beans will be
served at 12:30 p.m. The cost
for adults is $5, children $2.50
and pre school children free.

Heppner High School track
sters accumulated the most
points they have ever scored
in a State Track Meet Satur
day at the State Single A Meet
at Lewis & Clark in Portland.
Coach Dale Conklin said the
Mustangs scored 26 points to
place sixth overall in their
division. Richard Schmidt
placed first in the triple jump
with a leap of 43'llV, fourth
in the long jump, 20'8Vi" and
third in the high jump, 6'4".
Jim Parker was third in the
shot put with his throw of 50'9"
and Bryan Marlin was third in
the 440 meters in a time of
:53.4. Conklin said the event
ual state champion won in
Marlin's heat.
In the girl's competition,
Heppner's Maureen Healy
placed fourth in 440 meters in
:60.5, her second best time this
season.
Conklin said this year's
group of tracksters had tre
mendous talent. At Monday
night's sports banquet, he
thanked volunteers for their
assistance at home track
meets and named Maureen
Healy as the outstanding
trackster on the girl's team
and Kelly Hammond as the
most improved.
