An organizational meeting
of the Willow Creek Girls
Softball League will be held
Tuesday, April 10, at 7:30
p.m., at the Elk's Temple for
parents and coaches.
AH interested parents are
urged to attend. Coaches are
needed.
Girls from the fourth
through the eighth grade are
eligible. Sign-up forms are
available at Heppner and lone
Elementary Schools.
Official league play will
start around the middle of
May and extend through the
last of June.
Seventy girls participated in
the program last year.
Girls softball

basketball are
listed
Mike Stookey and Maureen
Healy were named most
valuable players for their
respective Heppner High
basketball teams, following
the conclusion of the 1978-79
basketball season.
Dale Holland took Most
Improved. and Most Inspira
tional awards for the Mustang
hoopsters, while Mary Kin
caid was named Most Inspira
tional and Alice Abrams was
chosen Most Improved for the
Fillies.

Heppner High School track
sters got into the thick of
competition this past week
with three different outings a
pentathalon in which each
person competes in five
events, the Willamette Relays
and a Co-Ed Relay meet.
Although each outing has
been plagued with winds and
cool temperatures, the Mus
tang thinclads have managed
to collect some outstanding
performances.
Maureen Healy has run 100
meters in :12.8, high jumped
5-2 and long jumped 17-3 M. All
three are "bests" in Oregon
among Class A girls and the
long jump mark is a new

Little League tryouts for the
1979 baseball season get
underway Saturday, April 7,
for youngsters in Heppner and
lone.
Tryouts will start at 10 a.m.
at the lone schools athletic
field for lone players, and at 1
p.m. at the fairgrounds Little
League field for Heppner
players. Boys and girls 8-12
are urged to try out for the
local teams.
This year's season will
include the addition of a new
team from Condon into the
Willow Creek League's sched
ule. The season opener is
scheduled for May 12.
Registration is underway
this week at area elementary
schools.
