plus Pilot Rock, Elgin and
Helix. Healy tied the winning
jump of 5 feet 2 inches, taking
third place honors on misses.
She also took second in the
long jump with a leap of 15'
llV, even though "she took
off a foot behind the board,"
according to her coach. "I'm
looking for great things from
her," Conklin said. "She's
quite a competitor."
With no juniors on the girls'
team, underclassmen will
have to make up the backbone
of the squad. Returning soph
omore Kelly Hammond took
fourth in the shotput and sixth
in the javelin at the Pendleton
meet, prompting Conklin to
comment that he is "pleased
with her marks this early in
the season." Margaret Kin
caid, a transfer student from
lone, will be a sprinter and
long jumper for the Fillies this
season. Her sister, Mary, will
high jump she placed fourth
last week at the Pendleton
tourney. Rounding out the
roster will be Ginny Estes, a
sprinter, and new student
Dawn Honnegger, at shotput,
discus and javelin.

Al Riney, Condon, stopped in
Kinzua this Sunday evening to
bring Cindy home.
Carol and Bernard Dyer and
sons left Thursday morning
for St. Mai ies, Idaho to spend
several days with her parents,
Les and Virginia Malloroy.
Jiggs and Rita Bowman left
Thursday to take Rob Hulett
to McNary to be with his
grandmother, Marie Hulett.
Rob, who has been visiting in
Fossil with the Steve Conlee
family, was called to McNary
by the death of his grand
father, Melvin (Red) Hulett.
Jiggs and Rita spent the night
with her sister and family,
Gloria and Clayton Clapper.
They returned home after
attending the services for the
long-time Kinzua resident.
Friday afternoon Chuck and
Marti Mitchell, Nina Castles
and Raymond and Deena Reid
went to McNary to take
Chuck's daughters, Windi and
Cindv home.
Heppner firm to direct
mock disaster drill
A mock disaster drill will be
conducted Saturday, March 31
in Athena by Quick Response
Training, Inc. of Heppner. The
drill will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Linda Connor of QRT, Inc.,
said persons traveling through
the area at that time, or
having relatives living there,
should not be concerned. The
class is being conducted for
Weston and Athena emer
gency services crews.
