Mustangs out of
Hopes for a district playoff

weekend, when the Heppner
Mustangs took a 75-55 beating
at the hands of league-leading
Pilot Rock, only to be clob
bered by number-two Weston
McEwen the following night
by a 90-55 margin.
Pilot Rock, sparked by a
22-point scoring effort by Jeff
Lavendar, kept up a blistering
53 per cent shooting average
from the court, mostly from
outside the key.

The reason for such election
is to:
1. Submit to the voters of
the district the question of
levying at tax for the year
1979-80 outside the 6 per cent
limitation in the amount of
$2,644,706 for the purpose of
furnishing funds for the opera
tion and maintenance of the
Morrow County School Dist
rict which cannot be furnished
within the current tax base of
$555,199.
2. Elect a director for the
district board from Zone III
and Zone IV.
3. Elect advisory commit
tee members to the Heppner-
trailed by as much as 27
points, they closed to within 10
in the final quarter. But the
Rockets' Jim Post slammed in
two quick baskets to end the
threat, with Pilot Rock pulling
ahead by 20 when scoring
ended.
The Rockets' dominated the
boards as well as the shooting
game, prompting Heppner
Coach Tom Day to comment
that they "really looked like
the league leaders in rebound
ing." Howard Huddleston was
the Mustangs' top rebounder
