first annual Guest Night on
Saturday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in

this special, once a year,
Valentine dinner meeting.

speak briefly on tax breaks
and the type of tax records
needed for homes and businesses.
Bill Riley will sing and play
his guitar for the evening's
musical entertainment.

Practical application of psychology...
Students visit state hospital
Eleven Heppner High
School psychology students
learned firsthand what institu
tional life is like for the
mentally retarded, when they
spent a day at Eastern Oregon
State Hospital's training cen
ter in Pendleton last week.
The 11 seniors members of
Dale Conklin's psychology
class observed training
methods used by hospital
personnel in rehabilitating the
retarded. Perhaps more im
portant, they learned to see
the retarded "more as human
beings," Conklin said.
"They had lunch and visited
with the patients, and the
patients showed the kids their
wards, where they lived, and
introduced them to their
friends," Conklin said.
In addition to the more
human aspects of the visit, the
field trip "gave the students a
chance to see the practical
application of areas covered
in the classroom," according
to Conklin.
The visit to the state
hospital is an annual event for
students in Conklin's psy
chology class.
