Church outlines plans lor
geodesic
street area
Tentative plans to build two
36-foot-tall geodesic domes on
a parcel of land adjacent to
Morgan Street were unveiled
during a Monday night meet
ing of the Heppner Planning
Commission.
The Rev. Wayne Smith of
the Christian Life Center,
Assembly of God, appeared
before the commission to take
preliminary steps towards
obtaining a conditional use
permit that would allow him to
house a church, school and
multipurpose facility within
the dome3 in the residentially
zoned area.
The church-school complex
would be built on the Bill Scott
property. Negotiations on the
parcel of land are not
complete, Rev. Smith told
commission members.
Rev. Smith stated that
construction would take place
in a two-phase program, with
one of the 72-foot diameter
domes to be built first, and the
second to be built as funding
becomes available. The first
dome would house a church
sanctuary and classrooms,
and the second dome would
contain a multipurpose activ
ity center.
Three residents of the neigh
borhood appeared at hearing
to speak against allowing the
