Like the lone boys, the
cardinal girls split one and one
with Ukiah and Heppner.
After losing to Heppner Fri
day night the girls rebounded
and trounced the Cougarettes
20-11 Saturday night.
, "They didn't play with as
much intensity as I would
have liked to see, Friday
night. They weren't thinking
about winning a basketball
game," said the lone Coach
Martha Doherty.
"I'm looking towards better
things, though," she said.
Although the stats were
unavailable for either game,
Coach Doherty did say that
her team made a tremendous
improvement from Friday to
Saturday.
"We do have a young team.
We have no bench experi
ence," she commented. The
lone roster has one returning
starter and two returning

"Probably one of the few
times for that to happen this
year. Everyone we play is
tall," he remarked, with a
little added expression on the
tall. "They are one of the few
teams that have kids the same
height as we do."
Robin LaRue led the team in
points with 14, Kevin McCabe
followed with 11 points, plus 16
rebounds. Glen Krebs and
Dennis Stefani each added
another 9 to the scoreboard.
Wayne Gilland was the high
point man with 14 for Ukiah.

varsity lettermen, two JV
lettermen and seven fresh
men. "Where we lost our games,
really, was in the number of
turnovers," said Coach Doher
ty. "We had 41 against
Heppner and 33 against
Ukiah."
Of the season ahead, "we
have our work cut out for us.
Helix and Arlington are the
teams to beat. They have a lot
of height and experience. I
know nothing of Echo, or of
Cascade Locks," said coach
Doherty.
"It will be a fight for every
game," the coach promised.
