Winners circle at the annual four-county Make It With
Wool contest centered around (from left) Tara Mahoney of
Heppner, Shelley Stroeber of Heppner, Mary Wolfe of
Joseph, Erin Evans of Irrigon and Suzanne Baker of
Hermiston. More than 60 persons watched as a score of girls
from the four-county area modeled their own woolen
creations in St. Patrick's Parish Hall in Heppner.
Tara was winner of the pre-teen division of the contest
for her outfit, featuring brown pencil thin slacks topped with
a plaid pullover. Shelley was first-alternate in the pre-teen
division. Her outfit was highlighted by a reversable wool vest
over a peasant-style dress, with boots completing the, look.
Mary Wolfe, senior division runner-up, displayed a soft plaid
dirndle skirt with matching spencer jacket and natural wool
hat.
Senior division winner Erin Evans "French girl" outfit
featured a waist length busboy coat, with a hat perfectly
matched to her jacket. Suzanne Baker's shirt-waist dress of
blue plaid Pendleton wool with safari-style pockets won her
runner-up honors in the junior division.
Diann Morter of lone, winner pf the junior division with
an "Annie Hall" style creation, was unable to pose with other
prizewinners in order to attend the Cardinal-Powder Valley
playoff game.
The contest, sponsored by the women's auxiliary of the
Wollgrowers' Assn., was judged by Carolyn Cole and LeRoy
Gardner pf Heppner, Shawna Bergstrom of Pilot Rock,
Mickey Madison of lone and Kay Simpson of Pendleton.

Heppner Elks Lodge would like to thank
all those who assisted with making the
professional table tennis match a
Success and for the public support.

appreciated.

sheriff is patient
in VA hospital
Clarence Bauman, former
sheriff here for 40 years,
remains a patient in the Walla
Walla Veterans Administra
tion Hospital.
Bauman was admitted to
the medical facility in August.
The former sheriff's wife,
Hazel, has been spending most
of her time with him, coming
home as necessary to care for
needs here.
The Baumans expressed
appreciation for the cards,
flowers, calls and visits they
have been receiving. The
former sheriff is a patient in
Ward fi of the Walla Walla
hospital.
lone Lions aid the blind
The lone Lions Club went
door-to-door through their
home community last week,
selling light bulbs in a
fundraising project to aid the
blind.
The bulbs are still on sale at
the lone Mobil station.
Taking part in the drive
were Virgil Morgan, Lindsay
Kincaid, Rollo Crawford, Ted
Palmateer, Harold Rietmann,
Don Bristow, Dana Heideman,
Joe McElligott, Joe Halvor
sen, Ron Palmateer, Marv
Peterson and Herb Ekstrom.
