On Monday, Nov. 13, the
Heppner Garden Club met at
the home of Eva Griffith.
President Eleanor Gonty pre
sided at the meeting. The
main discussion centered
around the planning for the
club's annual Greens Work
shop which is set for Monday
night, Dec. 11, in the basement
of the United Methodist
Church.
Garden Club members are
to be at the church by 6:30
p.m. The public may come at
7 : 00 p. m . A $1 .00 fee will cover
instruction and the greenery
to be used. Special trimmings
and novelty items, candles
and ribbons will be sold.
Garden Club members plan
to have display itemsa

Training session for leaders
of the topic will be given by
Virginia Williams, Wednes
day, Nov. 29, 9:30-12 noon, at
Peace Lutheran Church, N.W..
9th and Carden, Pendleton. All
leaders of Morrow and Uma
tilla counties will attend the
one session. Ms. Williams'
program will include present
ations by persons of Basque
origin, as well as children in
their native costumes. Each
leader attending has been
assigned a recipe for a
luncheon following the lesson.
It has become traditional for
study groups of Morrow
Umatilla to study a foreign
country at their December
meeting. The Basque culture
was chosen this year, as many
Basque reside in the two
county area. The training
session is open to all interest
ed persons, as well as any
study group meeting in the
two-county area. Membership
in a study group is not
required to attend.
PINE CITY GROUP
SEWS FOR DOLLS
Many dolls at the Neighbor
hood Center now have more
complete wardrobes, thanks
to the assistance of the Pine
City Study Group. Each year
the Pine City gals choose a
community service project,
devoting one meeting to help
ing others.
They picked up immediately
on the need for clothing for
dolls which are distributed
countywide to needy children
at Christmas. They learned
about "coping with stress" but
at the same time, their
needles were busy helping
others. We congratulate the
study groups for their com
munity services, as well as
Pat Brindle and Maxine Gray
from the Neighborhood Cen
ter. Pat and Maxine attended
the meeting, taking the dolls
to be dressed.

NEW CONTEST
FOR BAKERS
This is wheat country, and
now the Oregon Wheat Com
mission is undertaking a
contest to find a "product that
will be a symbol of Oregon
wheat production." I know
there are many really good
bread bakers in our county
(for I have sampled many of
their products) ! The Commis
sion is looking for an original
recipe. Those entering must
be Oregon residents 16 years
of age or older. Good prizes
are available, including $100
first prize, on down to $25 for
sixth place! There will be a
state bake-off, and all those
good things.
You'll find complete details
in many newspapers, or
write the Oregon Wheat Com
mission, Box 400, Pendleton,
97801.
