Junior Cards beat Arlington in overtime
Ione's junior high football
team appears to be taking
lessons from the senior high
"Cardiac Cards."
Lqst week, the junior Card
inals waited until well into
overtime to eke out a 2G-20
victory over Arlington.
lone controlled the earlier
portion of the game, leading
Arlington 20-0 at the end of the
first quarter. But the junior
Honkers steadily closed the
gap as the clock ticked down.
With 32 seconds remaining
in the contest, Arlington
intercepted an lone pass,
running it back nearly 45
yards for a touchdown. A
successful extra point attempt
made it 20-20 as the gun
sounded to end regular play.
Arlington won the ioss to
take first possession of the ball
in the overtime period. But
lone defender prevented a
drive from materializing, and
regained control of the foot
ball. Denny Starr connected on a
pass to Tim Patton, who in
turn lateralled the ball to
Donny Taylor, who carried the
ball to the one yard line. On
the next play, Starr kept the
ball and crashed his way to the
goal line for the lone Victory.
"I guess we just relaxed
too much after getting the big
lead in the first quarter," said
Poach Jerry Martin. "The
kids threw several intercep
tions and lost the ball during a
few fumbles. ..But 1 think thev
showed a lot of class to come
back and win the ball game."
Martin praised the offensive
and defensive efforts of Denny
Starr, who scored two touch
downs in the contest, and
D'onhy Taylor and Craig
Hams, who each reached
paydirt once during the contest.

during the legislative session.
"In order for a representat
ive to be effective, he must
have his district backing
him," said Bellamy.
He also is already making
plans for several coffees
throughout the district. At the
coffees, people will have the
opportunity to meet and
discuss concerns with Bell
amy. The coffees will be in
various locations and will be
held both during and after the
legislative session.
Bellamy is aware of others
who have made campaign
promises such as this one, but
who have not been successful
in following through. Howev

committed himself to keeping
the people informed.
