The Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, September 21, 1978 THIRTEEN Police Report j Two Hermiston men plead ed guilty in Heppner Justice Court earlier this week to charges of possessing illegal deer meat. Fined $305 each for the poaching charges were Rich ard R. Cochran, 25, and Roger Lee Bard, 24, both of Hermis ton. The two also received suspended 30-day jail terms. The two men were arrested by state police near the O'Brien Ranch on Little But ter Creek, where they alleg edly had loaded an illegally killed doe and fawn into a pickup truck. Kay Marquardt of Heppner received cuts and abrasions to her hand and wrist last week, when the pickup she was driving overturned along Hwy. 74, about one mile north of Lexington, sheriff's dep uties said. When Mrs. Marquardt rounded a corner, an oncom ing car apparently forced her to steer to the right. As the pickup truck moved onto the berm and into a roadside ditch, she lost control of the vehicle, with the pickup com ing to rest on its side. (J) Lexington news Delpha Jones 989-8189 Irene Padberg was hostess at her home on Friday' for a luncheon and 3 Links Club meeting. The afternoon was spent in a business meeting, at which time plans were made for an election day luncheon 1 and card party. The luncheon will start at 10:30 and continue through the afternoon and cards will start at 1:30. O-rhairmen named for this function were Maureen Davis and Marion Robinson. The group hopes to have the bazaar articles ready for the Heppner sale in December. Also, a Holloween card Party was planned for Oct. 28 with chairman Ruth Robinson in charge. The lodge meets the first and third Thursday evenings of each month and the club meets the second Thursday afternoon. Virginia Peck won the door prize. The next meeting is scheduled for the Ruth Robinson home. Venice Hendrickson visited her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Rinehart at their home in Ukiah over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Vilas Ropp visited last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Majeske. They were visiting over the weekend and remain ed for the memorial services of Mrs. Ropp's cousin, Chris Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer attended the Duncan's 50th wedding anni versary in Toppenish last Sunday. Mr. Duncan is a brother of Mrs. Marshall. Also attending from Heppner were Mr. and Mrs. .Bud Marshall.' The Holly PNG Club met at the West of the Willow in Heppner on Wednesday for their regular meeting. After a lovely luncheon, a short busi ness meeting was held. Those present were Leila Palmer, chairman, Donna Papineau, Florence McMillan, Irene Padberg, Freda Majeske, Ruth Robinson, Catie Pad berg, Maureen Davis, Hilda Yocum and Delpha Jones. The next meeting is planned with Irene Padberg and Delpha Jones as hostesses. Lolita Marquardt from Portland spent the week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marquardt. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Holly have moved to Bend, and their Lexington home has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Taylor from Fossil. The Committee on Woman's Activity .met at the home of Virginia Peck on Tuesday afternoon. Plans were com pleted for the stew supper and card party scheduled for Saturday night, Sept. 23, at the Lexington Grange Hall. The evening activities will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by the pinochle party at 8 p.m. Refreshments were served to Florence McMillan, Venice Hendrickson, Josie Peck, Barbara Cutsforth, Delpha Jones and the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mounts of Portland spent the week in Heppner and Lexington with Mrs. Mounts' mother Freda Majeske and sister Pat Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buch-. anan have moved from lone into their new triple wide trailer home in Lexineton. Irrigon news Francis Rose Wilson 922-3352 Discussion concerning the operations of Irrigon 's new safety officer, Tom Kelly, resulted in the appointment of Bill Cooley, councilman, as Police Commissioner, at the Irrigon Council Meeting last week. City Manager Jack Baisden, was relieved of this duty. Since this is Irrigon's first full-time police officer no policy covering his operations had been adopted. The policy is to be worked out between the officer and the commis sioner. Work policy for other employees was also discussed. Alice Bartlett of Heppner presented a resolution to the council, for inclusion of the City of Irrigon in the proposed Morrow County Health Dis trict. After lengthy discussion the resolution was rejected. The action will exclude the city from the proposed dis trict, if formed. Taxes for supporting the district will not . be levied within the city. Likewise voters residing in the city will not have a voice in , administration of the district. A hearing on annexation of property for the proposed new Junior High School was con- . ducted. No objections were voiced and an ordinance was adopted for the land that lies South of California Ave. and West of Division St. A plot of the Jewell Subdivi sion was presented by Carl Riley showing lot lines and water lines. The plot was accepted by the council. Council members whose terms expire Dec, 31 include, Dorothy Irish, Rod Collins. Bill Cooley . Petitions and declaration forms are avail able at the city office. City manager Jack Baisden was out of town on business so was absent from the council session.
